Understanding the Public Register The following table describes each type of registration status that is displayed in the “Registration Status” field of the public register. Details about the effective date for the particular type of registration status are also provided. Permitted to Status Description Effective date Current Member The person’s Certificate of Registration is current. The date the College issued a Certificate of Registration to the person, or re-issued the person’s Certificate of Registration upon reinstatement. Current Member Subject to Terms, Conditions and Limitations (TCLs) The person’s Certificate of Registration is currently subject to TCLs that were imposed by one of the College’s statutory committees or Registrar. The date on which the TCLs were imposed upon the person’s Certificate of Registration and took effect. If TCLs are modified, the effective date is the date on which the modified TCLs took effect. Entitled to practise the ECE profession in Ontario use the titles “early childhood educator” (ECE) or “registered early childhood educator”(RECE ) or French equivalents Subject to the College’s jurisdiction for professional misconduct, incompetence, or incapacity matters Yes Yes Yes Yes, subject to the TCLs imposed on the person’s Certificate of Registration Yes Yes 1 Permitted to Status Description Effective date Interim Suspension The person’s Certificate of Registration has been temporarily suspended by an interim order of the College’s Council or Executive Committee. The Council or Executive Committee may make an interim order if: The date of the interim order to suspend the person’s Certificate of Registration, as made by the College’s Council or Executive Committee. an allegation about the person has been referred to the College’s Discipline or Fitness to Practise Committee, and the Council or Executive Committee believes that the actions or conduct of the person directly or indirectly exposes, or is likely to expose, a child to harm or injury. The interim suspension remains in force until the matter is disposed of by the College’s Discipline Committee or Fitness to Practise Committee. The date that is 90 days from the date on which the College’s Registrar gave notice to the person of the default and intention to suspend. Entitled to practise the ECE profession in Ontario No (This includes not being employed in a program authorized under the Child Care and Early Years Act, the Education Act, or in a program that provides services to children where a Certificate of Registration is required). use the titles “early childhood educator” (ECE) or “registered early childhood educator”(RECE ) or French equivalents No Subject to the College’s jurisdiction for professional misconduct, incompetence, or incapacity matters Yes 5 Permitted to Status Description Effective date Expired The person’s Certificate of Registration is expired because they ceased to be able to legally work in the ECE profession in Canada. The date on which the person ceased: to be a Canadian citizen, to be a permanent resident of Canada, or to have authorization under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) consistent with the person’s Certificate of Registration (i.e., their work permit, to practise within the ECE profession, expired). Entitled to practise the ECE profession in Ontario No (This includes not being employed in a program authorized under the Child Care and Early Years Act, the Education Act, or in a program that provides services to children where a Certificate of Registration is required). use the titles “early childhood educator” (ECE) or “registered early childhood educator”(RECE ) or French equivalents No Subject to the College’s jurisdiction for professional misconduct, incompetence, or incapacity matters Yes 6 Permitted to Status Description Effective date Resigned/ Cancelled The person’s Certificate of Registration is cancelled because the person resigned their membership with the College. The date on which the person’s notice of resignation is processed by the College and takes effect. Entitled to practise the ECE profession in Ontario No (This includes not being employed in a program authorized under the Child Care and Early Years Act, the Education Act, or in a program that provides services to children where a Certificate of Registration is required). use the titles “early childhood educator” (ECE) or “registered early childhood educator”(RECE ) or French equivalents No Subject to the College’s jurisdiction for professional misconduct, incompetence, or incapacity matters Yes 7 Permitted to Status Description Effective date Revoked The person’s Certificate of Registration is revoked because they did not take the necessary steps to reinstate their Certificate of Registration that was suspended for nonpayment of fees or suspended for failure to provide information. The date that is three years from the date on which the College’s Registrar suspended the person’s Certificate of Registration because of a failure to pay a fee or penalty, or provide information, required by the College’s by-laws.
