Utah possesses one of the most diverse and stunning arrays of landscapes in the United States. In the task of
describing natural beauty, there is a point where words are inadequate. The next level is an emotional
experience that involves a rush of adrenalin and a nod of our heads that relate disbelief in how earth and sky can
be so beautiful. Welcome to the land we call Utah. The areas we travel on this tour have been featured in
countless movies and commercials. John Wayne was one of the first to exploit the natural beauty of Utah; many
have followed in his footsteps. This tour visits four national parks, three national monuments and three national
forests.
Day 1. Upon arrival in Salt Lake City, we depart to the This is the Place Monument, a memorial that marks the
end of the nearly 2,000-mile trail of the Mormon pioneers. After a brief riding tour of Salt Lake City, that
includes Temple Square, we check into our hotel for the next two nights in the Little America Hotel (801-5965700). Hotel amenities include attractive public areas, indoor and outdoor pools and restaurants. It’s near
restaurants and stores and is about one mile from Temple Square. A $50.00 hotel gift card per person is
included that may be used for one or both dinners that are in Salt Lake City.
Day 2. This morning we explore the Great Basin and view The Great Salt Lake, the largest salt water lake in the
Western Hemisphere. Lunch is on our own in nearby Park City, that began as a frontier mining town. Today, it
is a premier resort area that boasts a charming downtown with numerous shops. Free time is provided to lunch
on our own in the historic downtown.
Day 3. For the remainder of the tour, as we travel south of Salt Lake City, the scenery is beyond words. Our
first stop today is at the nearby North American Museum of Ancient Life, one of the largest dinosaur museums
in the world. This afternoon we visit Capitol Reef National Park; its stunning multi-colored rock formations
entail almost 300 million years of geologic history. The Native Americans who once lived here called it the
Land of the Sleeping Rainbow. This park also features outstanding views of petroglyphs (prehistoric rock
carvings) that range in age from 600 to 1,300 years. Accommodations are in the Best Western Capitol Reef
Resort (435-425-3761) in Torrey, Utah, only a few miles from the park entrance. Dinner is included this
evening.
Day 4. Our morning’s drive takes us through the heart of The Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument.
This 1.7-million-acre park contains one of the most scenic roads in all North America. It is a drive we will

remember for many years to come. For a few hours time, we will be spellbound with the magnificence of
mountains, valleys and unusual rock formations of unparalleled beauty. After an included lunch, we visit Bryce
Canyon National Park. From strategically placed walkways and overlooks we view this magical city of rock
skyscrapers. From here we travel to the vibrant resort community of Springdale, Utah. Accommodations are in the
Hampton Inn (435-627-9191) near many restaurants and stores. There is a free shuttle to take us around town.
Day 5. Zion National Park encompasses some of the most scenic canyon country in the United States. It’s like
visiting a land of make-believe. Our visit here entails touring on our own using the easy-to-navigate park shuttle
system. Our bus is not allowed in the park. Within its boundaries are high plateaus, a maze of narrow, deep,
sandstone canyons, 2,000-foot Navajo Sandstone cliffs and much more. Before departing to our resort in Arizona,
we enjoy an IMAX Movie on Zion National Park. Accommodations for the next two evenings are in the Lake
Powell Resort (928-645-1124), perhaps the most desirable area to stay in this National Recreation area. Nowhere is
there such a unique combination of earth, water and sky as in this area. All our meals are included in the hotel during
our stay.
Day 6. Our day begins with a tour of the Glen Canyon Dam. Created in 1963, this massive dam measures 587 feet in
height and is the main source of water and power generation for much of the surrounding area. After an early lunch,
we enjoy a narrated boat cruise on one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, Lake Powell, a 60-million-year old
geologic treasure, situated atop the Colorado Plateau. Lake Powell boasts a 186-mile length, and it is the centerpiece
of this 1.25-million-acre preserve. It is something we will probably never forget. We conclude our day with stops at
breathtaking overlooks that highlight the beauty of this land of wonder.
Day 7. To many, Monument Valley may be the most memorable highlight of the entire tour. As we approach this
land, we will easily realize why it has been the backdrop for countless movies and commercials. Its towering rock
monoliths and vast desert valleys combine to form a land seemingly not of this earth. As we nod our heads in
amazement and pinch ourselves to see if we are awake, we tour this land of towering geologic wonders. From here,
we continue north to the community of Moab, Utah. Again, the scenery is outstanding and it’s where numerous
movies and commercials have been filmed. Accommodations for the next three evenings are in the brand-new
Homewood Suites (435-259-7000) in the heart of the downtown of Moab, near many restaurants and stores.
Day 8. We begin our day with a 3-hour jet boat tour down the calm waters of the Colorado River. The 2,200 foot
canyon walls tower above as we view a fossilized sea bed, wonderful views of arches, Indian petroglyphs, and more.
After lunch on our own in the downtown, we visit Dead Horse Point State Park. It’s considered Utah’s most
spectacular state park and greatly resembles the Grand Canyon. It’s a must-see-place to visit.
Day 9. This morning we visit Arches National Park. We will have to take the road to its end, because it would be a
crime to come this far and not see it all. This park contains over 2,000 natural stone arches. Its geologic history dates
back some 200 million years. Countless spires, geologic oddities and exquisite formations are the standard. This
afternoon we are treated to a memorable backcountry jeep tour of the red rock country.
Day 10. We cross the Colorado River for the last time as we drive to Denver. Our return nonstop flight back to New
Jersey will pass quickly as we reflect on all the magnificent things we have seen and done on this tour.
Air transportation is provided by United Airlines. A surcharge will apply if United Airlines increases the price of its airfare. One
