The course will also require an understanding of human geography that can be analyzed through political, social, and economic perspectives. The course will also focus on understanding cartography as related to earth science, political divisions, resource distribution, and major world biomes. Analyze geographic data in order to understand the five themes of geography: Location, Place, Regions, Movement, & Human-Environmental Interaction. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of how political, social and economic factors affect the creation of world cultures and the conflicts and interactions that develop between regions and societies based upon these factors. 3. Exhibit an understanding of Geography as a social science with emphasis on empirical research and data collection utilizing the scientific method for exploring questions and determining solutions. 4. Describe the contributing factors and interactions between human needs and natural sciences that lead to global issues such as glacial melting, global climate change, etc. 5. Demonstrate an appropriate comprehension of cartography and be able to draw data from the use of maps, graphs, and internet sources such as Google Earth and other satellite data. Objective 1.1 Examine how location is determined by both relative location and absolute location. Objective 1.2 Analyze the human and physical contributing characteristics that determine a place. Objective 1.3 Define the common elements that determine formal, functional, physical, and perceptional regions. Objective 1.4 Describe the movement of people, goods, and ideas in a regional and global perspective. Objective 1.5 Explore how environments influence the development of human culture and how human development impacts global environments. Competency 2 Analyze how world cultures are formed and change over time. Objective 2.1 Explain the development of religious and social roles in world cultures. Objective 2.2 Analyze resource distribution through supply and demand that create economic traits. Objective 2.3 Detect the development of political thought and advances through history with an emphasis on rural and urban development.
