Canned tuna manufactured or distributed by or for Chicken of the Sea International shall be
produced in accordance with all applicable requirements of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic
Act (21 CFR).

Can Vacuum:
Internal can vacuum should be at least 2" mercury as measured by the
puncture test, or 4" as measured by a bulge detector. Optimal range is 4"
to 8" puncture, or 6" to 12" bulge vacuum.

CHEMICAL/MICROBIOLOGICAL CRITERIA
Histamine:
Less than 3 mg% on average, with a 95% probability of no individual
cans exceeding 5 mg% (50 ppm).
Mercury:
Less than 1.0 ppm methylmercury, per FDA compliance guideline.
Sterilization:
Canned products must be commercially sterile and free of viable
organisms of public health significance.
Can Integrity:
Seam specifications and end seam compounds must meet normal
industry standards and ensure adequate hermetic seals. Product lots
must be free of critical defects that could cause can contents to be unsafe
for use, in keeping with good manufacturing practices.
PACKAGING
Cans:
603 x 408 three-piece cans, with inside and outside coatings sufficient
for long-term protection against corrosion. Finished goods must be
commercially free of appearance defects (body dents, rust, loose or torn
labels, etc.) that could cause product to be unsaleable.
Cartons:
Minimum bursting strength 150 lb/sq.in .
