Good Afternoon, I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself

Good Afternoon,
I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself and express my enthusiasm for
the up coming 2016 Escondido Football season! I as many of you know, I was
hired this past January to take over the Escondido Football program and I could
not be more excited for the challenge. I have been a member of the Escondido
community since 2008 and its safe to say that I have orange and black in my
veins! Escondido has a strong tradition of success and our expectations are
extremely high. My focus is our overall football program Freshman, JV, Varsity,
weight training, speed work, and most importantly academics.
We have hit the ground running with new stuff happening in the program. First,
the weight room is in the process of being redesigned, painted, and receiving
new graphics and record boards. This will be a home away from home for our
athletes, so we want it to look amazing. We also recently purchased 25 new
Riddell Speed Helmets. Safety is our number one priority on the field, so we
purchased the best. With this purchase, each athlete will be fitted with a 5 star
safety rated helmet. Also purchased was a new 5-man sled. This may not seem
like a big deal but a $7,000 price tag is significant. It is an important investment in
improving our player’s abilities and making sure they are safe.
Included in this packet is some information about the program, times for practices
this summer, timing of our dead period (when players and coaches can not have
contact) and a few things about the vision of the program. If you could, please
mark off August 5th on your calendars now that is the date of our fall kickoff
meeting.
We look forward to seeing you at the Cougar Warm Up Dinner & Auction. The
date is the evening of May 7th and you can purchase tickets by calling or visiting
the EHS cashier, Penny Dorschel, at (760) 291-4015. If you have any further
questions about the Cougar Warm-Up Auction, please contact Football Booster
Representative Zanette Horton, at (858) 231-4339 or email at
[email protected]
I look forward to meeting with our teams and parents soon and if you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to call or email.
Loyal , Strong & True,
Jud Bordman

2016 Escondido High School Varsity/JV/Frosh Football
Academics:
The EHS Football program values academics above all. Our players are StudentAthletes and we are sure to emphasize that to them. CIF rules require that each
student maintain a 2.0 overall grade point average. (It is an un-weighted
calculation that does not include extra points of the AP courses.)
Sports Packets:
In order to participate in sports at EHS, you must complete the sports packet
verifying insurance and obtaining a physical. Physicals are only valid for 1 year.
Please take note as to when the physical was issued and make sure that it will
not expire during the season. An expired physical will result in an immediate
stoppage of play. Appointments must be AFTER JULY 1, 2016.
Summer Training Camp:
Varsity/JV football training camp will start on Monday June 6th – Saturday July
9th. Camps will be held Monday through Friday from 2pm-5pm at EHS. Each
session will include weight training, speed training and football specific drills.
Freshmen football training camp will start on Monday, June 13th – Saturday,
July 9th. Training will be held Monday through Thursday from 3:30pm - 5:30pm
at EHS. Each session will include weight training, speed training and football
specific drills.
Passing League:
Tuesday & Thursday of summer training camp are scheduled for passing league
contests against other schools. A schedule will be provided at the beginning of
summer training camp.
Fundraising:
We will conduct three fundraisers for the upcoming season (Community Discount
Cards, Community Support Drive, and the Concession stand) your efforts are
greatly appreciated so we may run a first class program that provides many
opportunities for our student-athletes. The goal for the 2016 season is for each
student to raise $400 dollars. Parents have the opportunity to make a donation of
$400 to our football program in lieu of our fundraising efforts. See the fundraising
handout below.
Fall Camp:
Fall training camp will begin on Monday, July 25th. From July 25th to the first day
of school (Monday, August 15th) there will be some days that we have 2 practices
per day, along with some Saturday practices. A schedule will be provided as we
get closer to the fall kick off. ALL PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY.
Contact Form:
Communication to all families is essential. We must have all the contact
information in order to send each player and their families updates and/or
changes regarding the football program. Please complete the required contact
form attached.
Cougar Booster Club:
The Booster Club is a non-profit organization. The Booster Club helps to inform
parents, support football program operations (i.e. the concession stand), and aid
in fundraising for the Escondido High School football program. The Booster Club
will assist in planning pregame and postgame events for football program
families.

The goal for the discount cards is for each student athlete to sell 20
cards. 10 during Spring/Summer Camp, 10 during Fall Camp.
Social Media Community Support Drive:
This program will be done with our Freshmen program only.
Concession Stand:
The concession stand is managed by a volunteer who coordinates
parents and volunteers to operate the home concession stand for
all the Varsity, JV and Frosh home games. It is vital to us to have
parent volunteers to run the snack bar and to emphasize this
further, we are taking $25 off the fundraising amount of your athlete
for each game you volunteer up to $125 dollars.
The goal for the 2016 season is for each student-athlete to raise $400 dollars.
Parents have the opportunity to make a donation of $400 to our football program
in lieu of our fundraising efforts.
Community discount cards
The main focus for all our teams will be the Community Discount Cards. This
fundraiser provides the greatest opportunity to generate funds and will allow our
athletes to raise the money for their football spirit packs. Players will be asked to
sell 20 cards to meet the goal of $400 dollars per athlete. Please encourage
them to sell all 20 of their cards, this will cover the costs of our program, ensure
the best equipment for our athletes, and allow our players to earn their spirit
pack.
