As a nation, we recently remembered the
50th anniversary of the assignation of President John F. Kennedy with several days of
special news programming and events. We
again revisited the who’s and whys, and
heard opinions from all points of view attempting to explain that day in Dealey Plaza. And, of course, we were presented with
the opportunity to view the film footage
over and over again of the horrific act.
I know that all of us that were alive at the
time have memories of the day, where we
were and what we were doing and vivid
images of the state funeral that followed.
As a young boy in Salina, I will never forget the rider-less horse that followed the
casket. For some reason that mental picture has left a lasting impression.
President Kennedy was a very quotable
president. I took time to revisit some of
his famous quotes and was shocked to discover how many of his thoughts were still
relevant and on point for today’s America.
Some of my favorites are:
My fellow Americans, ask not what your
country can do for you, ask what you
can do for your country.
Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be
stronger men.

We choose to go to the Moon. We choose
to go to the Moon in this decade and
do the other things, not because they
are easy, but because they are hard,
because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge
is one that we are willing to accept,
one we are unwilling to postpone, and
one which we intend to win, and the
others, too.

Ronald C. Johnson,
President & C.E.O.
Let us not seek the Republican answer or
the Democratic answer, but the right
answer. Let us not seek to fix the
blame for the past. Let us accept our
own responsibility for the future.
The personal and social values President
Kennedy spoke of in 1960 are standards
that we still need today. We have to be
willing to take on the hard challenges that
face our country and we need to have the
expectation that we will succeed. Not because the answers are easy but because we
won’t accept anything less. We need to
hold ourselves to the highest standards and
remain on a journey to get better as individuals and as a country. We need to be
willing to put the good of the whole first
and sacrifice short term comfort for the
best long term solution for America. And
finally, everybody needs to participate in
and have some ownership of the solution.
Any solution that helps some completely at
the expense of another is destined to fail.
We succeed or fail together.
The way we truly honor the memory of
John Kennedy is to adopt and put into
practice the ideals he put forth half a century ago. At this time in our country’s history we could sure use the guidance.
Happy New Year

The FDIC has created this webpage
http://www.fdic.gov/consumers/consumer/
alerts/phishing.html to inform and warn consumers about a type of fraud called "phishing."
The term "phishing" - as in fishing for confidential information - refers to a scam that encompasses fraudulently obtaining and using an
individual's personal or financial information.
This is how it works:
 A consumer receives an e-mail which appears to originate from a financial institution,
government agency, or other well-known/
reputable entity.
 The message describes an urgent reason
you must "verify" or "re-submit" personal or
confidential information by clicking on a link
embedded in the message.
 The provided link appears to be the Web
site of the financial institution, government
agency or other well-known/reputable entity,
but in "phishing" scams, the Web site belongs
to the fraudster/scammer.
 Once inside the fraudulent Web site, the
consumer may be asked to provide Social Security numbers, account numbers, passwords
or other information used to identify the consumer, such as the maiden name of the consumer's mother or the consumer's place of
birth.
 When the consumer provides the information, those perpetrating the fraud can begin
to access consumer accounts or assume the
person's identity.
Since January 23, 2004, criminals have been
using the FDIC's name and reputation to perpetrate various "phishing" schemes. It is important to note that the FDIC will never ask for
personal or confidential information in this
manner. See the FDIC Privacy Policy for further information.
It is also important to note that Community
National Bank will never ask for personal
or confidential information in this manner
either.
If you suspect an e-mail or Web site is fraudulent, please report this information to the real
company or government agency, using a phone
number or e-mail address from a reliable
source. Also, contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov), a partnership
between the FBI and the National White Collar
Crime Center.

Retirement Plans Division Helps Food Bank
In the spirit of the Christmas Season, CNB
Retirement Division made a donation to the
Nemaha County Food Pantry to benefit
those in need. The Retirement Plans Division divided up into 6 groups and went to
Ray’s Apple Market. Each group was given
a specific dollar amount to spend. The total
spent between all six groups was $648.64.
Many items were collected that the food
pantry was in need of and then delivered to
the Nemaha County Food Pantry.

My parents were right. I can
remember asking them numerous times while growing
up, why time went so slow?
I have many fond memories
