Teays Valley teachers donate to Mid-Ohio Foodbank
The members of the Teays Valley Educational Association participated in an “Operation Feed” campaign to
raise money for local families in need. Teachers in each building donated to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank during a
three week contest to see who could have the highest participation rate and raise the most money.
Since 1980, Operation Feed has provided meals for families in need. Each year, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank joins
forces with local businesses, schools, civic groups and individuals to raise needed resources through a community-wide drive. The TVEA decided to take part in it as they wrapped up their school year. Operation Feed
raises funds equating to millions of meals for families in the community struggling to make ends meet.
According to its website, 100% of every dollar donated provides food for our hungry neighbor and a donation
of $10 helps them to distribute $100 worth of groceries.
They teachers raised a total of $1,055, which will provide 4,220 meals. Scioto Elementary School teachers won
the contest.
“TVEA members wanted to take this opportunity to give back to the communities in which we work and live.
Providing meals to those in need results in a direct impact on local families,” TVEA president Kimber Bandy
said.
“I am proud of our teachers for spearheading this community service project. They definitely lead by example
for our students and continue to instill in them the importance of giving back to our community,” superintendent Robin Halley said.
Teays Valley West
Middle School
Student named
Academic All Star
Teays Valley West Middle school eighth
grade student Katelyn Lanning was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an
Academic All Star.
Lanning’s teachers describe her as a hard
worker who stays on task and completes
her work in a timely fashion. They said she
is always willing to help other students and
assist her peers whenever she is needed.
“This has been a great year for West students being recognized as Academic All
Stars. I am glad that Katelyn was added to
the list of deserving students,” principal
Mike Kauffeld said.

TV Educational Foundation Honors Top 10 Seniors
The Teays Valley Educational Foundation is sponsoring its annual dinner to honor the top 10 students in
the TVHS class of 2015. This list is based on the students’ grade point averages at the conclusion of the third
quarter. Each student has invited a teacher to recognize at the dinner who they feel has had a great impact on
his or her educational career and life. The students were told to choose a teacher from any point during their
educational career, including teachers that have since retired.
The students and their nominated teachers include Anne Cunagin – Stephanie Smith, Rebecca DeLong
– Marilyn Clifton, Georgia Drost – Ashley Prinsen, Kaitlyn Pees – Judy Walley, Jaylen Reinhart – Jeremy
Schaal, Mason Roese – Patti Burgett, Flynn Shannon – Emily Combs, Mason Skaruppa – Terry Roese, Andrew
Spencer – Jackie Nace and Catherine Steck – Gary Lester.
“This event is a great way to recognize the students for their hard work, as well as honor the teachers for
the role that they played in the students’ success. Part of the Foundation’s mission is to promote excellence
within the district and this dinner not only promotes the students’ successes, but also honors some of the
people who had a role in their success,” TVEF president Spencer Cheek said.

TVHS Juniors to represent Teays Valley at Buckeye Boys
and Girls State Programs
Congratulations to the Teays Valley High School junior students who were chosen to represent Teays Valley
as delegates and alternates at the annual Buckeye Boys and Girls State programs in June. Boys State will be held
at Bowling Green State University, while Girls State will be held at the University of Mount Union.
At Boys State, the students learn about city, county and state government through a non-partisan objective
education approach, while forming friendships with other students across the state. Buckeye Girls State is a
week-long program designed to educate Ohio’s young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of good citizenship.
Robin Halley
Superintendent
I recently encouraged our staff members to take some time to take a breath and reflect. I told them to think
about questions such as how has this year gone? What got accomplished? Where were the challenges? What did
they learn? What did their students learn? What do they want to continue doing? What can they improve?
These are the questions that are good starters for end of the year reflections. I don’t think we can truly move
forward unless we first consider where we have been. It is important as educators that we continually evaluate
what we are doing to educate the students and take time to consider what is working and what might need
refreshed. I expect that from myself as well as our teachers, and I think the end of a school year is a great time
for reflection.
I apply the questions I asked of my staff to the district too. We have accomplished much this year. We have
operated under a Continuous Improvement Plan that is relevant. We have offered more opportunities this year
for professional development than ever before. We have charted a course for collaboration and cooperation by
emphasizing teaming throughout the district. We have met challenges along the way, but have been able to find
solutions that work. We as educators have learned a great deal this year about effective instruction, purposeful
planning and resourceful collaboration. I believe all of that has resulted in a positive school year for our students.
As the year winds down, we are already looking ahead to next school year. The administrative staff spent
Friday reviewing this year’s Continuous Improvement Plan and worked to create a new one for next school year.
They incorporated input that the staff generated during April’s early release day. We will use these CIP goals and
objectives to guide next school year.
It is hard to believe that there is just one week left for this school year. Thank you to the staff and students
for another wonderful school year. Congratulations to the graduates who will be taking part in commencement
this Sunday. You have a lot to proud of and I look forward to all of the great things that are in store for your
futures. Viking nation, I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable summer!
