Act 1 Summary: The original thane of Cawdor was executed and openly admitted to treason but people noticed his death seemed to be rehearsed. Macbeth sends a letter to Lady Macbeth about his recent events. He tells her that the witches made him king but she wants more power. Then She wants to do it her self. Lady Macbeth is a little more controlling and power hungry than Macbeth. JOURNAL ENTRY #3 Act 2 Scene 1 Questions: The characters in Scene 1 are Banquo, his son Fleance and Macbeth. They are all in a court in Macbeth’s castle. Banquo and Fleance enter with a torch before them. The dagger is him going crazy and obsessing over the idea of him killing Duncan. This is a sign of him going crazy and him losing his head. I think he is having this vision because Lady Macbeth got to him when she was showing that she is the alpha male in that relationship. Act 2 Scene 2 Questions: They are all in a court of Macbeth’s castle. They were discussing the death of Duncan and Lady Macbeth says that she killed Duncan. The obsessive knocking is their heads screwing with them and going through extreme amounts of guilt. I think their heads are doing this because I think they are overwhelmed with what just happened and I think they both realized what they just did. Macbeth Journal #4 I think he conveyed the 2 scenes with emotional impact and realistic acting skills. I made it almost exactly the way he did when I went through the prompt book. Though, he made the movie a little more lax than I would’ve done it. Macbeth Entry #5 In Polanski’s version, it was in an old time period and had the old English dialogue like in the original play. Wright’s version was entirely different, it was in a modern day time with modern day appliances in technology and mechanics. The old English dialogue still existed but with an entirely new look to this play. That movie shows what you can turn things into. I honestly prefer Wright’s play because it helps me understand the situations in the movie instead of Polanski’s play where I was lost and confused during the movie. I honestly wouldn’t change the acting in class. I think it’s good the way it is. Macbeth Journal Entry #6 Explain your answers....Tell us why.....be Thorough and Thoughtful!! This whole act was based on Macbeth killing his friend Banquo and showing how obsessed he is becoming about being king. I think this because Macbeth in the movie was a dark man who looks like he would do something evil, plus lady Macbeth influencing him to go further with his life. I think the staging would be dark and eerie looking. I think this because this scene features things like murder and things that are dark. It should be a stormy night and people in a darker setting. I’d make Macbeth restless and anxious. I would show the audience how crazy he is becoming. PHOTOS CANT COPY AND PASTE WELL SO I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW I CANT GET A PHOTO.Drag to your desktop, then drag to your document. Macbeth Journal Entry #7 We premiered things like flashes from lightning, rain to simulate a storm, leaves rustling to emulate wind, horses galloping to show the arrival of Banquo and audience reactions to help you see the atmosphere of the play. The experience sucked because I hate group projects, it gives me extreme amounts of anxiety and I couldn’t talk. I guess i could’ve contributed more to the project. The dramatic parts like the Jaws thing helped me understand that there is something major going on in the play. With the dramatic music we really showed the people that something big and major is going on. I personally think that it went very well and it was great. Macbeth Journal Entry #8 In act 4 scene 2, when Macduff and Malcolm fled, people looked at Macduff as a traitor and a scumbag for leaving his possessions and his family behind. His wife calls him a traitor but his son doesn’t see him as a traitor and the son and mother argue. A murderer from Macbeth comes in and kills the boy and the mother. In act 4 scene 3, Ross, Malcolm and Macduff reach news of his family dying. Ross and Malcolm convince Macduff to take action and be a man and kill Macbeth and be king. They have an army good enough to take over Macbeth. This act is important because this is the beginning of the end for Macbeth because he’s going to kill Macbeth. I personally think that The other students did great to help me understand the act. But the scene 3 group was hard to understand because of how long it was, also they talked kind of quietly. Overall, I give the class including our group, a B. My group deserves a B also because we reviewed what went on in our scene to help understand the scene. I don’t think that we did that bad. We could have done better but we still did it acceptably. Macbeth Journal #9 If you are reading this, I have passed away. But my soul cannot be at rest until every one knows of my misdeeds. I haven’t been honest and I have been deceitful and lying to everyone. I took parts in most of the masquerades that hath taken place in my lifetime. I am responsible for horrid things. I influenced our mighty Macbeth to murder Duncan and falsely take kingship. I was obsessed with power and was wicked. I apologise, I should have confessed to this. What’s worse is Macbeth didn’t even want to do it, but I insulted him in horrid ways to make him do it. I implored him to kill poor Duncan. I helped clean up the remains of Macbeth’s evidence of murder. I told him to not think about it, but that only made it worse. I turned him into a monster and he hired murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance, but Fleance thankfully got away. I also caused him to murder Macduff’s poor wife and babe. Please don’t blame Macbeth, I manipulated him to do these things, he always felt bad about these actions. I bid you all farewell. I paid the price for these things by taking my life. I’m not asking you all to forgive me. Now I rest well knowing that people know my crimes. Macbeth Journal #10 I didn’t want to ever say this like I had to in 8th grade but, I just don’t think I can do this. I have anxiety disorder and ADHD, whenever i have to work with people, both of those things severely act up if I'm in a group of people. When you also said that this will be displayed to the class that made it millions and billions of times worse. I’m so sorry but I just don’t think I can do this. I just, cannot do it. I’m so sorry but I hope we can work out an arrangement. I could do an extra vocab or two, I can fill out more journal entry. I can do an essay. I will do anything, but I just cannot do this. I’m so sorry Ms. Rice. You must be a little disappointed at me. I want you to please litsten to what I’m saying. You see... I’ve got a bad home life and CYS is annoying me. I have unrelenting stress every day and this will make break down in class. I will literally faint or my stress will make me resort to things... but I really don’t want to do this. My therapist couldn’t even help me in this situation... I hope you can understand but just can’t do this. I couldn’t stand even being apart of this. I hate that I’m putting you in this situation but I want you to at least try and work out something. I’ll even make an essay on Macbeth. I’ll be prepared for any assignment, I’ve out up with my stress of acting in a group the whole marking period but this is just too much. You must be mad. Asher...Please know that we will certainly assign you an alternative assignment for this or any project which affects you this negatively. We (Mrs. Rand and myself) are not even remotely mad and have never been disappointed in your work. In fact, we appreciate your attention to detail and thoughtfulness in all your work. Thank you so much for being so courageously honest with us and for sharing your trust with us. Please feel free to share with us at at any time. Do not stress yourself out over Macbeth, we will find a solution. Ms. Rice Thank you so much Ms. Rice. I am sorry for acting this way but now I feel so much better and happier :D. Thank you, and I promise I will do my best on the alternative assignment. You won’t be disappointed. Macbeth Journal #11 the facts on Macbeth say that this play is a tale of lust for power and loss in life. This play can teach people lots of things. Like don’t turn on your friends. Don’t buy into bad decisions. And lastly, don’t let power corrupt you. The fact is that this play can teach you about life. About decisions altering you life in almost every way. The people act as if this actually happened to them and gives you that sense of authenticity.
