Chavez Family Erik and Lily are overjoyed at the prospect of owning a home and raising their daughters in a safe, decent home. Erik, who joined the Marines at age of 17, has been employed with a local fruit grower since his discharge. Lily shared, “We’ve enjoyed building our house with everyone we have met along the way; that’s our favorite part. Viorato–Hernandez Family Ramiro and Maria have an 8-year old daughter and 2 year-old son who need space to grow and thrive. Ramiro works hard in construction and agriculture. Maria works part-time cleaning houses and also cares for children. The family is currently living in a small converted garage where all four family members share a single bedroom and meals are prepared in make-shift kitchen. Habitat Partner Families Sanchez Family Rigoberto and Hirais are currently living in a converted garage with their two young daughters and sharing a single kitchen with 10 other people. Over the past few months, they have been working hard to earn their sweat equity hours, building their home, attending homeowner classes, and participating in special events. Both parents have worked in the agriculture industry for 24 years. This hardworking family is currently living in an old, over-crowded home with limited space for studying and sleeping, and no yard or outdoor space for play or sports.
