Year 9 Curriculum Overview
Students are assessed on their ability in following areas: reading analysis, creative
writing, writing for a purpose and analysis Literature pieces. Students will read and
study:





a 20th century novel such as ‘Lord of the flies’ (William Golding), ‘Animal Farm’
(George Orwell).
or a 20th century play such as ‘An Inspector Calls’ (J. B. Priestley), Blood
Brothers (Willy Russell).
the Shakespeare play Macbeth.
a 19th century novel such as ‘A Christmas Carol’ (Charles Dickens), ‘The
Strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ (Robert Louis Stevenson), ‘The Sign
of Four’ (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle).
a collection of poetry from the ‘Power and Conflict’ cluster on the AQA English
Literature GCSE specification.
