Example: Apprenticeship Hunting Letter See the attached letter as a guide to help you start your letter – change it to suit you as you feel appropriate / what’s comfortable and right for you. A few things to note: Choose a modern font: Ariel, Calibri, Trebuchet are all good, font should be no bigger than 12. Justify the page: if you can, to keep things neat and tidy and attractive to the eye. Spell check, spell check, spell check! Nothing will get you to the bottom of any pile quicker than dodgy spelling and grammar. Add in skills you have that are relevant to the work you will be doing. If you need help with this, see Mrs Formosa. Take out the skills that aren’t relevant. Look at the other careers info sheets in this section for skills ideas and help. Putting in skills that sound great but you find hard to justify or talk about, will only trip you up further down the line. Make sure your email address is appropriate, if it isn’t then create a new one – for example, [email protected] might not send the right message! Try and find out the name of the right person to address the letter to, this makes it more personal and hopefully they will reply more promptly! Keep it to one page – concise and simple is key. Do a draft and bring it to Mrs Formosa for checking - I can help you think about the skills you have that are relevant, etc. Example Apprenticeship Hunting Letter Your Address, email and telephone number Date Employer Address (including postcode) Dear (finding out a name is best than using Sir / Madam) Mrs Brown I am my final year of secondary school and I am looking to find an apprenticeship in ___________________ when I leave school at the end of June.
