You have joined our movement and together we are already making a difference. We promise you a sensational first-class ride complete with mechanical support, clearly marked routes, terrific food and snacks in a festive environment along with the most incredible volunteer support group you could ask for! Some of you may be seasoned veterans, while others may be first time riders. Some of you invest time, while others invest money. Whether you volunteer, pedal or pledge, your participation is already making strides in fighting this deadly and debilitating disease. We appreciate your effort and passion to join the MS cause. Our collective efforts serve to raise critical funding to support MS research, programs and services to aid the lives of close to half a million people living with multiple sclerosis, including over 6,000 in our community alone. Look around you, you are one of over 2,500 people that together will raise over $2 Million to help fight against MS. Living with MS means fighting for forward motion - something that most of us take for granted each day. A few years ago, Zimmerman Advertising organized to help the cause with a team we call ZMotion. We understand, as you do, that people need the courage, support and determination to move forward no matter how large the obstacle. Our goal in life, business and community is to simply lead by example. At the end of the Ride, we will all have a sense of personal accomplishment and the satisfaction of knowing we made a difference in the lives of many. Welcome to the Ride! P a g e 4 2 0 0 8 R i d e G u i d e This is Why We Ride… What is Multiple Sclerosis? Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disease that interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and stops people from moving. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS. Most of those diagnosed are between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men being diagnosed with the disease. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but new treatments and advances in research are moving us closer to a world free of MS. MS by the Numbers Approximately 400,000 Americans acknowledge having MS, and every week about 200 people are diagnosed. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society estimates 2.5 million individuals are affected by MS nationwide, including the 6,000 South Floridians living with multiple sclerosis. Pedal Partners! Pedal Partners connects individuals affected by MS with dedicated riders like yourself, enabling you to create an inspirational story of your own. This connection fosters education, awareness, gratitude and most importantly, hope. During the MS Bike Ride, event participants wear a bandana signed by a person with multiple sclerosis. This can be someone you know or we can pair you up with a person living with MS in South Florida. The bandana reminds you that every mile you cycle brings us closer to a world free of MS. If you are riding for someone you know: You will receive an unsigned bandana in the mail prior to the event. Once your Pedal Partner decorates your bandana, you are ready to wear it proudly the weekend of the event! The Mission of the National MS Society “To end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis” By participating in the 2008 Zimmerman MS Bike Ride Presented by Wachovia, you have joined the movement that will bring us closer to our mission and will help create a world free of MS. We are working hard to accomplish this mission through a nationwide network of chapters that serve more people with multiple sclerosis and fund more MS research than any voluntary organization in the world. If you would like us to connect you with someone who has MS: You will receive a signed bandana in the mail prior to the event along with your Pedal Partner’s contact information. We recommend you contact your Pedal Partner and sport your bandana with enthusiasm during the Ride! Be a Pedal Partner and join the movement to create a world free of MS! If you did not sign up for Pedal Partners and are interested in this program, please contact the Bike Team at [email protected], 954-731-4224 or 1 800 FIGHT MS by April 11, 2008. 2 0 0 8 R i d e G u i d e P a g e 5 Every Dollar Counts! The largest fundraiser the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, South Florida Chapter produces annually is the Zimmerman MS Bike Ride Presented by Wachovia. In 2007, the MS Bike Ride raised over 1.85 million dollars towards finding a cure. These dollars fund much-needed research into the cause and treatment of MS and are critical to continue the persistent search for a cure. Funds raised by the MS Bike Ride also allow the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to provide case management, financial assistance, support groups and educational programs for people affected by multiple sclerosis such as the annual Women's Retreat, Men's Day and Kids’ Coping Camp. These programs enhance knowledge, health and independence for individuals with MS residing in South Florida and their families. Pledge: a monetary donation given by a sponsor to a fundraising event participant who has promised fulfillment of a goal or challenge. The Pledge Sheet is the official record of each rider's sponsorship. A rider should write the donation total in the designated space on the pledge sheet and make a copy for his/her own records. A starter pledge sheet was enclosed in your Ride Guide Envelope. Additional pledge sheets are available online or by calling the National MS Society. Riders are responsible for collecting all pledges. To receive your rider numbers and participate in the event your minimum pledge of $300 must be turned in prior to the day of the Ride. All pledges are due by Monday, June 16, 2008 to be eligible for prizes. Pledges can also be given online once you set up your personal page at www.msbikeflorida.org. Details on how to set up your personal page are available page 7. Where the Dollars Go R i d e G u i d e Online Tools The National MS Society, South Florida Chapter has made fundraising smooth and simple by offering various online tools to help you reach your fundraising goal. As a registered rider of the 2008 Zimmerman MS Bike Ride Presented by Wachovia, you are automatically assigned your own personal webpage, called your Participant Center, which is designed to facilitate every aspect of your fundraising. Your Participant Center has a variety of features to help you fundraise for the MS Bike Ride. To access your Participant Center, visit www.msbikeflorida.org. On the top right hand corner of the page you will see a silver box that says “Log In to My Participant Center” at which point you’ll need the username and password created in the online registration process. If you did not register online and would like to create a username and password, please contact the Bike Team at 954-731-4224 or [email protected]. If you’ve forgotten your password, you can click the “E-mail Your Password” link at the bottom of the silver box and your password will be emailed to you. After you’ve logged in, you will find six main links across the top of the page: The first link is for your Participant Center, so you can return to the main page from any other page within the Participant Center. This is also where you can revise your fundraising goal and check for updates from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society staff. The second link is for your Personal Page. Personalize your page by adding a picture, editing text and altering the color scheme and layout of this page. The look of this page and the narrative you share about why you ride is completely up to you. This is the webpage that your friends and family will see when you ask them to sponsor you online. It is also where you will find your honor roll of donors and your personal fundraising thermometer. The Address Book link is where you can import contacts from your personal e-mail accounts. You may also manually enter names and e-mail addresses if you prefer. From the E-mail link you may send custom messages or use one of the provided templates. We strongly encourage everyone to personalize their message, only you can really explain why you’ve joined the movement. These e-mails automatically include a link to your Personal Page, making it easier for friends and family to sponsor you or to join you by registering to ride or volunteer. In the Follow-Ups section, you can follow-up with the people you’ve contacted so far. This includes sending thank you e-mails for those who have already donated and sending reminders to those who have yet to respond. Finally, the My Progress section allows you to see just how far you’ve come in your fundraising efforts. There is a gift summary section, where you can compare your online and offline donations, view your fundraising thermometer and graph outlining when donations were made by month, and access an overall gift history. This is also the page where you can find the “Enter Gifts Received Offline” link. Team Captains will have an extra link, My Team. This is where you have the ability to build a unique team webpage. View your team roster and track your team’s progress. As you complete each step, you draw closer to your fundraising goal and helping thousands of people living with MS. STEP 1: Identify your prospects Determine who to add to your list. STEP 2: Select your approach Face-to-face: This is the best and most direct approach when you anticipate large pledges or when the opportunity presents itself. Approaching someone face-to-face is a more personable step that garners more positive results and support. Letter or e-mail: This can be one of the most efficient ways to reach a large quantity of prospects and convey important information. Remember to follow up with anyone who receives one of your letters or e-mails. Telephone: Calling someone is just as effective as a follow-up to a letter or e-mail if you are unable to approach face-to-face. STEP 3: Craft the style of your message A serious approach: Discuss the mission of the National MS Society and the role of the Zimmerman MS Bike Ride Presented by Wachovia in helping the lives of the 6,000 South Floridians living with MS and the importance of your goal for the 2008 Ride. A light and humorous approach: Can also be effective with family and close friends. It allows you to discuss the mission of the Society while adding your own personal flavor to the message. A combination of both approaches can be effective as well. STEP 4: Select the format Form letter or e-mail: This simply means that the same letter or e-mail goes to every individual. Helpful hint: You can always personalize a form letter by adding a handwritten P.S. note. Personal letter or e-mail: This can be a much more effective approach than a form letter. A personal touch can make all the difference. By personalizing your message on an individual basis, you can emphasize particular aspects of the Society’s mission and your MS Bike participation that will appeal to your respective audience. Although this can be time consuming for long lists, the results are well worth it. Solicitation card: More simplified than a letter, a solicitation card provides an opportunity for a creative touch. STEP 5: Suggest the level of pledges Amount: Let donors know the amount of contribution you would like for them to consider. Aim high: Don’t underestimate the donor’s willingness to give. The National MS Society, South Florida Chapter is pleased to provide additional information or suggestions regarding any of the steps listed above. Do not hesitate to contact us if we can assist you. P a g e 10 2 0 0 8 R i d e G u i d e Matching Gifts Double Your Money! How do you "cash in" on this incentive? Contact your Human Resource Department to find out if your company has a corporate Matching Gift Program. If they do, prior to the Zimmerman MS Bike Ride Presented by Wachovia, go to your Human Resources Department and pick up a Matching Gifts Contribution form. Your company may match your contribution as well as contributions made by your co-workers if they also apply for matching gifts. Please make sure to turn in the form at the same time you turn in the pledge check, that way it can be easily tracked. This is an easy way to double or even triple your funds for MS. Don't forget to encourage your sponsors to ask their companies for matching gift forms. The advantages of using Matching Gift as part of your pledges are: • You can double the amount of money you turn in and qualify for larger incentives. • Those individuals that sponsor you can take advantage of it as well, adding dollars to your pledges. • The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will be able to fund more research, programs and education with the funds raised from Matching Gifts, aiding us in our mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. Visit www.msbikeflorida.org or contact the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, South Florida Chapter for a list of Matching Gift companies. 2 0 0 8 R i d e Some Companies with Matching Gift Programs Triple Match Grainger Double Match Capital Group Deutsche Bank Johnson & Johnson/ Cordis Prudential Foundation W K Kellogg Foundation Single Match ACE INA Foundation ADP Altria Foundation American Express AmSouth Bank Assurant Health AXA Foundation Bank of America Bell South ChoicePoint Citigroup Citrix CNA Foundation Coca Cola Curves Equifax First Data Corp. Teams may have riders of all different skill levels and ability. Each team needs a team captain and should have a unique team name. Benefits of Forming a Team • • • • • • • • Strengthens teamwork and team building skills Boosts corporate pride and employee retention Encourages community involvement Easier to train and fundraise More fun to participate as a group On-site packet pick up for teams with 35 or more registered riders Team photos Chance to qualify for team prizes and awards Form a Team Forming a team is as easy as 1, 2, 3. 1. Recruit, recruit, recruit! Ask everyone you know to join you! Contact the MS Bike Team at 954-731-4224 for creative recruitment ideas. Each member must pay the registration fee and commit to raising the minimum pledge ($300). Remember that if they are unable or don’t want to ride, there are many volunteer and alternative fundraising opportunities available. 2. Fundraise See the fundraising section for a variety of creative ideas! 3. Make it Fun! Don't forget to make the experience fun for everyone involved! P a g e 12 2 0 0 8 R i d e G u i d e The Right Equipment Choosing and Maintaining Your Bike Adapting Bikes for Long Distance Rides Riders use different kinds of bicycles: mountain, road, recumbent, hybrid. Being fitted to the bike is just as important to rider comfort as the right kind of bike. A bicycle should be appropriately sized for the rider. The saddle, stem and handlebars should be appropriately adjusted as well. Most MS Bike Shops offer basic bike fitting; call or stop by your local bike shop to ask if they do. Riders who choose to use mountain bikes can take advantage of one of the road bike advantages by replacing standard knobby tires with thinner slick tires. In most cases, bike shops can replace mountain bike tires without replacing rims. The smaller, lighter and smoother tires will improve on-road performance and make the ride much more comfortable. Another good comfort idea is to use cycling shoes with locking pedals. Cycling shoes have stiff soles to prevent foot flex and fatigue and have special cleats that lock them into their pedals. The pedals keep the shoes from slipping and add to cycling efficiency. A bike will work well whenever you take it out with just a little maintenance. We recommend a complete tune-up annually, or every 2,000 miles. All Official MS Bike Shops give free, professional inspections and estimates on routine maintenance or repairs on your bike. More than anything else, listen to your bike. ANY unusual sounds Cycling shoes provide the ability to push and pull up while such as squeaks, popping, grinding, creaking or rattling peddling to create a continuous circular motion, which helps to maintain and or increase speed. are warning signals of a problem. All riders should ensure their bike has a water bottle and cage or even two, one for water and one for a sports drink. The cages secure the water bottles to the bike and provide for convenient access. Hydration systems, such as the Camelback, are canteens that fit closely to the body. Coupled with a drinking tube, they make continuously sipping water easy. Apparel • • • • ALL MS RIDERS MUST WEAR A CERTIFIED SNELL OR CPSC BICYCLE HELMET AT ALL TIMES WHILE RIDING THE ROUTE. Your rider numbers, including bib number, helmet sticker, wristband and bike frame number must be visibly displayed. Cycling apparel should be close fitting, wick away perspiration and won’t get caught in your bike tires or chains. Areas of concern are where the body meets the bike: gloves, shorts and shoes. Because of our South Florida climate sun block, lip balm and sun glasses are very important. 2 0 0 8 R i d e G u i d e P a g e 13 Safety Basic Safety Rules for the Road 1) Ride on the right • • • Always ride in the same direction as traffic. Ride on the right side of the lane, a few feet from the edge. Slower moving cyclists stay to the far right. 2) On the Road • • • • • • • • • The same laws that apply to motorists apply to cyclists. Obey all traffic control devices (i.e. lights, signs and lane markings). Always use hand signals to indicate your intentions to stop or turn. Talk to your fellow cyclists. Let them know “CAR BACK,” “ON YOUR LEFT (when passing)” or “STOPPING.” Never wear headphones. Ride single file to allow traffic to pass. Never ride more than two abreast. Pass on the left only. RIDE FRIENDLY! And respect the communities that we ride through. 3) Always wear a properly fitting helmet • • Ensure that the helmet fits snugly and sits squarely on top the head, not tipped back. Riders must wear helmets anytime they are operating a bicycle. 4) Ride Predictably • • • Ride in a straight line and don’t swerve in the road or between parked cars. Check for oncoming traffic before entering any street or intersection. Anticipate hazards and adjust your position in traffic accordingly. 5) Be Visible • • Wear brightly colored clothing. Make eye contact with motorists to let them know you are there. P a g e 14 2 0 0 8 R i d e G u i d e Cycling Etiquette Eat, Drink and Ride Riders must follow the rules of the road, but it is just as important to follow these tips and practice cycling etiquette: • Ride in a straight line; don’t weave. • Cross railroad tracks at a right angle. • Try to make eye contact with drivers before turning. • Glance back often and always before moving right or left. • Watch out for yourself. Don’t depend on other riders to spot hazards. Eating and drinking right is just as much a key element of training for and riding in the MS Bike Ride as the number of miles a rider spends on a bike. The best way to take charge of your body is to use common sense. However, always consult your physician before starting any training program. It is important to be well hydrated before, during and after a ride. If you do not drink enough fluids, dehydration will result, causing nausea, muscle cramps, chills, and lack of motivation. Dehydration could lead to heat stroke, a serious medical condition. The Zimmerman MS Bike Ride Presented by Wachovia is a fun and recreational ride for nearly every skill level. You don't have to follow a strict training program to prepare for the MS Bike Ride. Try to ride your bike five times a week with two well spaced days off. The length of your ride should be based on your fitness level and experience. Ideally, you'll be able to start riding regularly at least eight weeks before the event. Sample Training Program The weekend is when you accomplish two important objectives. First, improve your endurance and ability to be comfortable on the bike for several hours. Second, get used to riding long distances two days in a row. • Saturday - this should be your longest ride of the week. Schedule it for Saturday so you have the option of switching to Sunday if necessary. Begin at the level that's right for your present fitness level, then add about 15 to 20 minutes each week. Eat and drink for energy and to acclimate your stomach to digesting food while riding. Sunday - Do about 80% of Saturday's time. Try to join a group or club ride to get used to riding with others. You'll be sharing the road during the MS Bike Ride, so you need to be comfortable in the midst of all those riders. • Here's what a good training week might look like. Feel free to make adjustments based on your work schedule and available time. Please check with your physician first. • • • • • Monday - Day off. Start the week off resting. Tuesday - Ride for 60 to 75 minutes with periods of brisk riding. Try some hills (bridges) or sprints. Be creative, keep it fun and leave some time for easy spinning at the end. Wednesday - Make this your second or third longest ride of the week. Try to ride as much as two hours at the same pace you plan on riding the MS Bike Ride. Even if you can't go for very long try to keep it steady. Thursday - Ride for 60 - 75 minutes like Tuesday, just change it up! Try a different route. The variety will keep your riding fresh and fun. Friday - Ride for 45 minutes or take the day off if you are feeling sore or tired. You should enjoy being on your bike. P a g e 16 2 0 0 8 R i d e G u i d e Remember this maxim: You grow stronger when you're resting, not when you're riding. Adequate recovery time is essential. Take a day or two off if you feel you need to. Listen to your body! We recommend that you record your training in a journal for two reasons. First, the best results will come if you hold your week-to-week increases to 10%-20%. Second, you'll have a better preparation plan for next year's Zimmerman MS Bike Ride Presented by Wachovia! After the official take off at 7:00 am at the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami, 50 mile riders will veer off to the designated area and be shuttled to the official 50 mile start line 25 miles down the route where they will begin their journey to the overnight finish line at the MetroPCS Village at John Pennekamp Park. See page 22 shuttle information about free shuttle service. 75 miles – 7:00 am: Ride the full 75 miles on Saturday and cross the overnight finish line at the MetroPCS Village at John Pennekamp. See page 22 shuttle information about free shuttle service. 110 miles – 7:00 am: Ride 75 miles on Saturday and 35 miles on Sunday. Begin Day 2 with a victory lap around the Homestead-Miami Speedway and cross the finish line at the BankUnited Center. Shuttle service will be provided from the MetroPCS Village to the Maroone Pit Stop at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Bikes will be transported separately to the Speedway. 150 miles – 7:00 am: Ride 75 miles both days and cross the finish line to the roaring cheers of volunteers, family and friends at the MetroPCS Village on Day One and the BankUnited Center on Day 2. Rider Numbers Your rider number must be displayed on both days as directed in your Rider Packet. The large number is to be affixed to your jersey so that it is visible during the ride. The small number label should be placed on the front of your helmet. This is the only way we can identify you in photos taken by our photographers. The medium number must be tied to your bike, this will allow bike storage to run smoothly. Rider numbers are provided for your luggage. Proper ID is required to remove your luggage/bike from the luggage/bike security area. Riders without rider numbers will not be permitted in any rest stop, including the MetroPCS Village at John Pennekamp Park. Route Marking & Maps The MS Bike Team takes the safety of our riders very seriously. Over 600 volunteers and professionals will be in place throughout the MS Bike Ride to make the event safe and enjoyable for our riders. Your cooperation with our safety team is important for the well-being of all our riders. Please note: The MS Bike Route is not closed to traffic. All riders must follow the rules of the road. Communications The Amateur Radio Public Service Corps links the Ride together with radio and cellular support and operation. Team members at the radio network control and in MS Bike vehicles provide the information backbone of the Ride. While we can’t provide updates for family and friends on every rider, our Communications volunteers can help us can track down and flag those riders who have medical concerns. Please let us know prior to Ride weekend the name and rider number of the rider in concern. Medical Support There will be medical personnel at the start/finish lines, at all rest stops, at the overnight and along the route. The on-route medical personnel is provided by American Medical Response. In the case of minor roadside situations, SAG drivers may transport riders to the next rest stop for assistance. If you need help, do not hesitate to ask, whether it’s road rash, allergies or you’re just not feeling so great. Rogue Riders & Unsafe Riders Riders who ride the route but do not register are a major safety issue. Besides adding to the number of riders on the road, these riders do not have the safety information available to MS Bike Riders, nor the support of our safety teams and access to rest stops. Please do not invite anyone to ride along with you for even a portion of the Ride. If you become aware of riders who are not wearing numbers or registered riders who are riding unsafely, please let us know at the next rest stop. Route maps will be given to you at the start line each day. Every turn along the route will be clearly marked, along with potholes and other road hazards that were apparent during route marking. Straight shots will be marked in intervals to let you know you’re still on the right track. If you don’t see a marker in more than a mile, you may be off-course. Check your map, most roads on the Ride are numbered, so getting back on course should be relatively simple. Rest Stops Rest stops are located every 5-12 miles. Each rest stop is sponsored and themed for its own unique, fun, festive atmosphere. Energetic volunteers, medical support and professional bicycle mechanics greet riders at each rest stop. The rest stop is fully stocked with energy snacks, fruit and drinks. Rest stops compete for the Best Rest Stop Award, so prepare to be pampered! Since not every rest stop is equipped to handle additional vehicles or people, we request that supporters gather at designated cheering sections only. P a g e 20 2 0 0 8 R i d e G u i d e To Signal SAG Vehicle Drivers Follow These 3 Steps: Support and Gear Vehicles From a moving car, it is hard to distinguish a friendly wave from a call for help. Help our volunteer SAG drivers by following the SAG Signal when you need a hand (See upper right hand box). 1. OFF ROAD - Move out of the path of other riders. 2. OFF BIKE - Stand or sit nearby. 3. WAVE HELMET - Let the SAG drivers know you aren’t just taking a breather. Be aware that some of the official vehicles on the route are medical, staff and/or communications vehicles and are not equipped to carry riders. Also, at peak hours SAG vehicles may be full. Please have patience, another will be by soon. Personal or Team SAGs are NOT permitted MS Bike Ride SAG drivers have been trained and work in tandem with a SAG spotter for everyone’s safety. Personal and Team SAGs are not permitted for the safety of all our riders. To become a trained SAG driver or spotter please contact us. Riders agree not to have personal or team SAGs as part of the Safety Pledge. SAG vehicles patrol the MS Bike route to provide assistance to riders who need a lift ahead on the route. SAGs do not stop to make repairs to bikes, but they will bring riders to the next rest stop where a mechanic will be provided. Don’t be shy about taking advantage of them if you feel tired! Riders with special concerns should contact us for an alternate route map. This map is available for riders who need someone to meet them at rest stops, while keeping the vehicle from disrupting traffic along the Ride Route. Driving slowly behind riders can lead other drivers or cyclists to take unsafe chances to get around the slow vehicle. This may endanger the very rider the driver intends on helping. The MS Bike Ride cooperates fully with law enforcement, including traffic laws. Motorcycle Support Group Motorcyclists patrol the route. They are an integral part of the MS Bike Ride. Motorcycle support volunteers are trained to respond to emergencies and traffic situations to keep the Ride running smoothly. No driver is exempt from local or state traffic law; officers may issue tickets to drivers they observe breaking the law by speeding, obstructing traffic or other actions. Vehicles on the Route and Cheering Sections Your safety is our number one priority. For that reason, we require all family members, friends, photographers and team volunteers to stay off the cyclist’s route and use alternate routes instead. Pulling over, driving too fast or too slow, or honking at cyclists can create severe safety hazards. For your convenience, we’ve mapped out an Alternate Vehicle Route alongside the MS Bike route. We will have designated areas for friends and family to cheer on the riders and to take pictures. The cheering sections will bisect the route but not intersect it. This will make it safe and enjoyable for friends, family and cyclists as it helps reduce traffic and congestion for everyone on the road including motorists who are not part of the Ride. A friends and family driving map will be handed out at the start line each day and will be available online a week prior to the Ride. 2 0 0 8 R i d e G u i d e P a g e 21 Ride Weekend Details Weather Free Shuttle Service Rain or shine the MS Bike Ride continues. I will obey all traffic signals and signs. I will ride defensively and never assume I know what others will do. I will use common sense and courtesy to other riders and to motorists. I understand that riding several abreast interferes with people and cars who wish to pass me. I will pass cyclists only on the left and only after calling out "on your left" in a pleasant and kindly manner. I will keep my head up and watch for obstacles in my path. I will call out hazards to riders behind me such as, "gravel", "hole", "tracks". I will ride only on the marked bicycle route where SAG crew can assist me. I will completely pull off the road if I need to stop and get off my bicycle. I will signal for a SAG vehicle if I or my bicycle becomes unable to continue. I will tell my friends and family to stay off the route and to meet me in designated areas only. I will not invite unregistered riders to ride along for any portion of the Ride. I will not wear headphones while on my bike. I will stay hydrated and drink before I am thirsty, and eat before I am hungry. I will not drink alcoholic beverages before or during riding. I will watch the MS Bike Ride Safety Video. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Rider Name: ____________________________________________________________ Signature: ___________________________________________________________ PERSONAL SAG STATEMENT I agree to not use a personal or team SAG. I have been informed that personal and team SAGs are not permitted and that any driver who impedes vehicular or bicycle traffic is breaking Florida State Traffic Law 316.2045 and may be ticketed by local or state law enforcement. If I have a medical or other condition which may require closer monitoring by SAG vehicles, I will contact MS Bike Ride organizers and make safe arrangements prior to the Ride rather than risk the safety of others on the road by using a personal SAG.
