Joseph Trent Morrow
Joseph Trent Morrow was born in
Huntington, Indiana to parents Flave and Pauline
Morrow, who taught him the importance of
education, hard work, volunteerism, and a love for
the State of Indiana.
Joseph Morrow attended Indiana University
in Bloomington, graduating with a Bachelor of Science
degree. He then went on to acquire a law degree
from IU. Joseph Morrow was admitted to the Indiana
Bar Association in 1958.
He served as the Law Clerk for the U.S.
District Court of the Northern District of Indiana, and
was a Partner in the law firm of Eichhorn, Morrow,
Eichhorn.
Mr. Morrow served as Chairman of the Board
of Mercantile National Bank for over twenty years.
Known for his philanthropic endeavors and
community involvement, Mr. Morrow has long been
an active participant throughout the Northwest
Indiana community, lending his time and talents to
numerous committees and Boards.
January 1, 1997, Mr. Morrow assumed the
Chairmanship of the Board of Directors of the Urban
League of Northwest Indiana, Inc. His first decision
was to dedicate himself to improving the overall
academic achievement levels of the youth of Northwest Indiana.

Eligibility Requirements
Scholarship
The Joseph T. Morrow Urban League
of Northwest Indiana, Inc. Scholarship was
established to enable students from the cities
of Hammond, Gary, and East Chicago,
Indiana to pursue educational dreams that
they might have believed unattainable.
The establishment of this Scholarship
by Mr. Morrow’s family, wife Sandra
Murray Morrow, son Christopher Morrow,
and daughter Gale Anne Morrow Crabtree,
on December 17, 2001, is representative of
Joseph Morrow’s level of committed
dedication to the Northwest Indiana
community, as well as to the principles of
the Urban League Movement.
His love for his alma mater is
personified in wanting others to share the
“Hoosier” educational experience at Indiana
University.
A committee comprised of members
of the Morrow family, the Urban League of
Northwest Indiana, Inc. and the Legacy
Foundation annually award the nonrenewable scholarship based on the
established criteria. One (1) Scholarship for
$1,000.00 will be awarded to a High School
Senior from Gary, East Chicago, or
Hammond.
Applicants for the Joseph T. Morrow Urban
League of Northwest Indiana Scholarship
must provide documented proof and include
in the application the following:

Must be a current-year graduate of a
Northwest Indiana High School and a
resident of Gary, East Chicago, or
Hammond, Indiana.
To Apply
To apply for consideration the applicant must
complete and submit the following:
1.
The Urban League General Scholarship
Application form.
2. An official transcript of grades from your
high school.
3. A letter of acceptance from Indiana
University Bloomington or Northwest
campus.

Must have a letter of acceptance for the
next school year from Indiana University
Bloomington or Indiana University
Northwest campus.

Must have a minimum cumulative grade
point average of “B” as defined as a 3.0
on a 4.0 grading scale.
4. Personal Statement, not to exceed 500
words, that describes you, your life
experiences, aspirations, and why the

to achieving those aspirations.
5. A one-page resumé that details your skills,
experiences and interests. It should also
