Benton Dene School Newsletter 22nd April 2016 Staff Training Day - Friday 29th April. School will be closed to pupils. Happy 90th birthday Queen Elizabeth Green Zone children joined in with the Queen's 90th Birthday celebrations. On Thursday morning we made birthday cards, flags, streamers, portraits and cooked scones for Her Majesty's party in the afternoon. We all had an amazing time and we also had our photographs taken with the Queen and the Royal Family. Red Zone enjoyed the celebration by colouring in the Union Jack and drawing pictures of Queen Elizabeth. Please see page 3 for more photos. As we are hopefully getting to the warmer weather, can you please ensure that your child has adequate protection against the sun. please send sunscreen in labelled with their with name on and a sunhat. Some information and reminders Summer Fair —June 10th 3.30 - 5pm Provisional day for Sports Day is Tues 5th July: KS1 (Yellow & Green) 10.00am KS2 1.45pm(Red & Blue) This Week G7/8 enjoyed their visit to the local park. We were looking to see what transport we could find on our journey. This term is all about transport! Red 1: In Science we have been learning all about melting. Did you know white chocolate melts faster then dark chocolate? Red 4: have been cooking French style in Food Technology. The children watched different kinds of food being made and tried making their own crepes. Adding strawberries and syrup, they were delicious!! Red 8 have enjoyed learning about the life cycle of a frog. We explored the pond area looking for tadpoles. Blue 1 : have been using the IPADS to create pic collages and green screen programming. Follow twitter to see more of our images. 2 Blue: visited Beacon Hill Cafe last week. They chose from a symbol menu and enjoyed toast, snacks and a drink. They met some of their old friends from last year and enjoyed their visit. Blue 4: have been taking part in Roman style games during their fitness sessions using a ball and a hoop as part of this term’s theme. Blue 7 have been learning about different materials and their properties as part of their science lessons. This week we investigated which materials would be best to make a boat. We experimented with lots of materials to see which ones were best at floating. Benton Dene Stars!
