acDAY 1 – COPENHAGEN AT LEISURE. Welcome to Scandinavia! On arrival
at Copenhagen Airport, your airport shuttle service leaves for the tour hotel at
10:30, 12:30 & 15:30. Then you are at leisure. Tonight enjoy a Welcome Drink and
dinner, followed by a visit to the glittering lights and enchanting atmosphere of the

d DAY 2 – COPENHAGEN SIGHTSEEING. Meet Hans Christian Andersen’s
Little Mermaid gazing wistfully across the harbour this morning, followed by a
highlight visit inside the Danish Parliament Building (Christiansborg) to marvel
at the opulent interior. See the Rosenborg and Amalienborg Palaces, and the
Renaissance Stock Exchange. This afternoon there is free time to enjoy as you
wish - perhaps join an optional tour through the Danish countryside? (BB)
f DAY 3 – COPENHAGEN – ODENSE – FREDERIKSHAVN. Cross from
Zealand to the Island of Fyn, to visit the childhood home of Hans Christian
Andersen in Odense. Then head to the peninsula of Jutland, known as the
‘garden of Denmark’. Stay in the port of Frederikshavn, where tonight you enjoy
a highlight dinner at a local restaurant. Hotel: Jutlandia (BB,HD)
DAY 4 – FREDERIKSHAVN – STOCKHOLM. Bid farewell to Denmark as you
cross the waters of the Kattegat to Gothenburg. Continue through fertile
farmland and along the shores of LakeVattern, to Stockholm, known as ‘the city

b ad DAY 5 – STOCKHOLM SIGHTSEEING. Start the day if you wish,
with an interesting insight from our guest speaker, into the Swedish welfare
state. Learn about the myths and realities of maintaining these first class
benefits. Now join a local guide for your sightseeing tour. Visit the City Hall’s
‘Gold Room’ where the Nobel Prize banquets are held. Then continue into the
medieval island heart of the city to view the cathedral, walk through the Old
Town and see the Royal Palace. Now a highlight visit to the unique Vasa Galleon
- a marvellous impression of life on board a 17C naval vessel. (BB)
DAY 6 – STOCKHOLM – SIGTUNA – UPPSALA – FALUN. Travel via Lake
Mälaren to tiny Sigtuna, once the Viking capital and now boasting Sweden’s
smallest City Hall. Then to Uppsala, seat of Scandinavia’s oldest university. Visit
the Cathedral where the Swedish kings were crowned. Later, travel through
rural Dalecarlia to the ski resort of Falun. Hotel: First Grand (BB,D)
DAY 7 – FALUN – NUSNAS – LILLEHAMMER. A scenic drive along the shores
of Lake Siljan in the Dalarna region, brings you to Nusnas, to witness colourful
wooden horses being made. Continue deep into the forested heart of Sweden.
Cross into Norway and pass the Olympic ice skating rink called the ‘Viking Ship’

visit to the Maihaugen open-air museum to see old Norway’s rural life come

waterfalls, glistening lakes and snow-capped peaks as you follow Peer Gynt’s

DAY 9 – GEIRANGER AT LEISURE. A day for relaxation amidst the most
breath taking scenery, which has been granted World Heritage status by
UNESCO. Later maybe take an excursion along the Trolls’ Road with
outstanding photo opportunities at the Seven Sisters waterfall! (BB,D)
aDAY 10 – GEIRANGER – FJORD CRUISE – FJORDLAND. Start with a
spectacular cruise on the mirror-smooth waters of Geirangerfjord, with its
towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls. Continue to the Bøyabreen Glacier for a
photo stop. Then a scenic drive along the Sognefjord brings you to the ferry over

a f DAY 11 – FJORDLAND – FLAM RAILWAY – BERGEN. Magnificent
Sognefjord is the world’s longest and deepest fjord, and you cruise upon its
serene waters today. Now embark on a spectacular scenic journey on the Flam
Railway, ascending from sea level to 3,000 feet. Your destination is the historic
port of Bergen. Tonight there is a great selection of restaurants to choose from

d DAY 12 – BERGEN SIGHTSEEING. The ancient Hanseatic port of Bergen still
largely looks to the sea for its living, as evidenced by the colourful fish market, the
largest in Scandinavia. Today is yours to explore all that this exciting town has to
offer, such as the 13C Haakon’s Hall. Or perhaps you might like to visit the home
of composer Edward Grieg before ascending Mount Floyen by the only funicular in

DAY 13 – BERGEN – OSLO. Bid farewell to ‘the wooden city’ this morning
travel east through the rugged landscape of the Hardangervidda. Cross scenic
mountains and travel through ski-resorts on your way to the Norwegian capital

DAY 12 – ALTA – NARVIK. Today pass the fjord where the battleship Tirpitz hid
out during World War Two. Travel through some of the most stunning northern

DAY 13 – NARVIK AT LEISURE. A day has been set aside for you to enjoy at

National Park, its fjords cutting deep into the landscape. Bid farewell to the
Arctic before reaching Mosjoen, a pleasant town on the Vefsnfjord, which has

DAY 15 – MOSJOEN – TRONDHEIM. Drive through Namdal then watch for
salmon leaping upstream to their spawning-grounds at the mighty Laksfoss
Falls. Continue via the village of Hell to Trondheim, seat of the ancient Viking

a DAY 16 – TRONDHEIM – GEIRANGER. Cross the Dovre Mountains, which
form Norway’s oldest National Park. Arrive at the mirror-smooth waters of

immortalised by Ibsen, to Oyer to come face to face with the world’s largest
Troll. After stopping in Lillehammer, host of the 1994 Winter Olympics, it’s on to

c DAY 1 – REYKJAVIK. Welcome to Iceland! With
its lack of traffic, trains, pollution and people,
Iceland is a strangely wonderful wilderness with
icecaps, glaciers, hot pools, geysers and lava fields.
On arrival at Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport, there are
transfers to your tour hotel. The rest of the day is
at leisure. Hotel: Radisson Blu Saga
d DAY 2 – REYKJAVIK – GEYSIR – GULLFOSS
- SKALHOLT – VIK. Take an orientation tour
of Reykjavik before heading east to visit
Hellisheidavirkjun (Iceland’s newest geothermal
heat and electric power station). Continue inland
to visit the spouting hot-springs at Geysir and the
waterfalls Gullfoss, the Icelandic equivalent of
Niagara. After lunch we visit the ancient Bishopric
of Skalholt before continuing to your hotel in Vik.

DAY 3 – VIK – SKAFTAFELL NATIONAL PARK –
JÖKULSARLON – HÖFN. Drive along the southern
coast of Iceland, beside the black basalt-sand
beaches. The highlight of the day is the National
Park at Skaftafell where you will see the largest
glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull. Travel on to Lake
Jökulsarlon, dramatic setting for scenes in the James
Bond film, ‘Die Another Day’. Hotel: Hofn (BB,D)
DAY 5 – EGILSSTADIR – DETTIFOSS – LAKE
MYVATN – AKUREYRI. Drive through the sand
desert of Mödrudal to the Dettifoss, the most
powerful waterfall in Europe. Continue on to the
beautiful lake Myvatn, an internationally
renowned bird-watching site. This area offers a
wide spectrum of geological formations and the
intense geothermal activity produces mud pools
and spectacular coloured deposits. Afterwards,
view the Godafoss, known as ‘The Waterfall of the
Gods’, before continuing to your hotel in Akureyri.

d DAY 6 – AKUREYRI – SKAGAFJŐRDUR –
BORGARNES. Enjoy an orientation tour of
Akureyri, the capital of northern Iceland - first
established as a trading centre in 1602. Travel past
mountains, waterfalls and into green coastal
regions where distinctive Icelandic horses are bred.
Return to the south-west coast in the afternoon to
stay in Borgarnes. Hotel: Borgarnes (BB,D)
DAY 7 – BORGARNES – REYKJAVIK. Travel
southwards to Thingvellir, where the first meeting
of the Icelandic parliament was held in 903. This
remarkable site lies on the Great Atlantic Rift
where the American and European tectonic plates
meet. Back in Reykjavik, maybe take the option of
visiting the Blue Lagoon to bathe in its hot mineral
waters - a relaxing end to a remarkable trip?

DAY 4 – HÖFN – EASTERN FJORDS –
EGILSTADIR. Explore the beautiful eastern
