Outhouse Races Rules
OUTHOUSE SPECIFICATIONS
1. Minimum Outhouse Weight – 200 pounds without Rider
2. Minimum Outhouse Structure Height – 6 feet (72 inches) from the ground to the highest point of main Outhouse
structure. Does not include any wheels, chimneys, flags, signs, etc.
3. Minimum Outhouse Base Footprint Size – 9 Square Feet, 36 inches x 36 inches base floor size.
4. Maximum Outhouse Base Footprint Size – 16 Square Feet, 48 inches x 48 inches base floor size.
5. Maximum Outhouse Footprint with Wheels – 25 Square Feet, 60 inches by 60 inches, not including push bars.
6. Outhouse Push Bar Span – Maximum 9 feet in total length.
7. OUTHOUSE must be completely enclosed with an operating door. Curtains may be used as door. The door must
be secured in the Open Position when racing. If Secured Open Door extends outward past front exterior wall, that
will be the front edge location used at starting line.
8. OUTHOUSE must contain a mounted Toilet Seat, 1 Roll of Toilet Paper on a mounted holder, and only appear to
be a functional outhouse.
9. OUTHOUSE may have any number and type of wheels with a minimum diameter of 4 inches to promote stability.
Wheels may be mounted under the Outhouse or on the exterior, not to exceed the Maximum Outhouse
Dimensions.
10. Steering and Brakes are optional.
11. OUTHOUSE may be built of any material as long as it remains stable and is determined safe by the Judges. NO
GLASS is allowed to be any part of the outhouse.
12. OUTHOUSE must not have any motor or other device to assist propelling the movement. Must only be propelled
by the team/crew. No pedaling allowed.
13. OUTHOUSE must have the team name visible on at least 2 sides. Outhouse can be decorated with the name,
signs, logos, etc. No profanity allowed.

TEAM/CREW REQUIREMENTS
1. A team/crew must consist of 3 people minimum, (1 Rider and 2 Pushers) with a maximum of 5 people,
(1 Rider and 4 Pushers). All entrants can also have 2 alternate members of the team/crew in case a
member needs to be replaced from an injury or personal reason.
2. Minimum age to be a Pusher is 16 years old. Any Pusher under the age of 18 must have a
parent/guardian signature authorizing their participation on the application.
3. Minimum age to be Rider is 16 years old. Any Rider under the age of 16 must have a parent/guardian
authorizing their participation on the application. OPTION for Participant’s Child – If a Pusher on the
team/crew would like to have their own child participate as a Rider the Minimum age may be waived
with Judge’s approval.
4. SAFETY FIRST! All members (pushers and rider) must wear a Helmet or some type of protective head
gear and Shoes or Boots during any race.
5. Rider must be secured in the seated position by a web strap lap or shoulder device while race is being
run.
6. Main Street Van Wert, All Sponsors, and Event Volunteers are not responsible for any injuries incurred
by any event participants and/or spectators.

RACE FORMAT
Two Outhouses will race at a time in a Double Elimination format. Races begin every 10 to
15 minutes starting at 2:00pm until all races have completed. An Awards Ceremony will follow after
the last race. Exact Race Times Will be Determined when the Total Number of Teams and Event
Length are finalized. Teams will be updated by e-mail as event date nears.
RACE RULES
1. All Outhouses and Crews must be checked in by 12:00pm on Saturday, October 1st or 12:00pm on
(Rain Date) Sunday, October 2nd RAIN or SHINE if needed.
2. Outhouses must be propelled by the crew member’s strength only.
3. Outhouses must be kept in the designated staging/pit area while not racing. NO MODIFICATIONS
ALLOWED to any Outhouse after Inspection or during staging for any race.
4. All Teams/Crews must maintain control/contact with their outhouse at all times during the race.
Example a push and release over the finish line is not allowed.
5. At the starting line, no portion of the Outhouse may extend over the line. It will be the Judge’s decision
as to any restarts.
6. Outhouses must remain in their designated lane during the entire race. If an Outhouse or pusher
crosses into a competitors lane or goes out of the lane will be penalized 5 seconds that will be added to
their race time.
7. Any Outhouse or team member causing contact with any spectator, an opposing team’s Outhouse or in
the opinion of the Judges, interferes with the other team’s ability to race, the offending outhouse and
Crew will be disqualified for that race.
8. The first outhouse to reach the finish line with any intact permanently attached part of the outhouse
WINS!
9. In case of a TIE or photo finish and Judges are unable to determine a clear winner, the race will be rerun following the next scheduled race.
10.
ALL JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL. Decisions involving race winners will be made by a minimum
of 3 Judges.
11. GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP is expected at all times.
