Amendment IX – Simplification of Nomination Procedure and of Presidential Duties
Section 1 – Form of Amendment
By unanimous consent of the Politburo, the constitution is hereby amended pursuant to Article
XI Section 1.
Section 2 – Simplification of Nomination Procedure
a. Subsections A, B, C, D, and E of Article IV Section 4 are repealed.
b. The following subsections are appended to Article IV Section 4:
a. Eligible persons may be nominated for specific offices while the
Secretary is supervising nominations pursuant to Section 5 of this
article. No one may be nominated at any other time.
b. Persons may not move to nominate themselves or second
motions for their own nomination. Nomination motions may not
be both made and seconded by the same person. All subsequent
subsections of this section are subject to these restrictions.
c. The President may move to nominate an eligible person for a
specific office. That person is then nominated for that office. The
President’s motion need not be seconded.
d. Members in good standing may move to nominate eligible
persons for specific offices. These persons are nominated
provided that a Politburo officer seconds the motions in
question.
e. A written petition to nominate an eligible person for a specific
office may be submitted to the Secretary while nominations are
being supervised. If this petition is signed by five members in
good standing aside from the person to be nominated, then the
person in question is nominated. This petition shall be prepared
in advance of the election. If signatures are solicited during the
club practice or meeting during which the election takes place
then the Secretary shall reject it as invalid.
Section 3 – Simplification of Presidential Duties
a. Subsections L, M, N, and O of Article III Section 2 are repealed.
b. The following text is appended to subsection K of Article III Section 2:
The President shall publish on the club website a current version of this
constitution. The President shall also publish on the club website the
current quarterly budget as well as a current record of all financial
transactions to which the club is party. The President or the person to
whom the President has delegated the execution of the duties described in
this subsection is hereinafter the Webmaster.
Section 4 – Ratification
On this 28th of February 2016, we the officers of the Politburo do hereby ratify this ninth
amendment to the constitution of the Fencing Club at UCI.
