Lloydminster Public Library is celebrating Alberta Arts Days with local author Kelsey Friesen (aka Kelsey Greye) on Saturday, October 1 at 2:00pm in the Ken Burke meeting room. K e l s e y will talk about her published novel, The P u r s u i t of Miss Charlotte Edwards, her recently finished novel and give us a sneak peek of her work in progress. Alberta Arts Days began as a one-day event to recognize the value of Alberta's arts and cultural communities. It has expanded into a vibrant, three day, province-wide celebration that has helped inspire the creation of Culture Days- a panCanadian movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. September 2011 PAGE 2 Renovati on P r o j e c t U p d a t e The Library looks a little bit different when you walk in these days. Actually it looks a lot different. The Library closed for four days at the end of July so that we could do some renovations and rearrange a few collections and service points. At the end of those four days we were tired but satisfied with all we had accomplished. The Picture Book collection now occupies the space formerly used by Circulation staff. Children's fiction, nonfiction and videos/dvds are next to the Picture Books. A kid's washroom, complete with change table, is now located in the Picture Book area for use by families with young children. So if you haven't seen the changes, please stop by. And visit our website to see pictures of the renovations. Paperbacks were moved next to the Just Arrived section as were the audiobooks. And the Checkout Desk? It has returned to the place it originally occupied when the Library moved to Atrium Centre. Sel f-check h a s a r r i v e d a t t he L ib ra ry This summer's renovations paved the way for the installation of two self-check units across from the Checkout Desk. Only books and magazines can be checked out at these stations for now. Anyone wishing to borrow audiobooks or video materials must still have it done by Library staff at the Checkout Desk. Library users wishing to bypass lineups at the Checkout Desk and those who like to "do it themselves" now have the opportunity to do so. Staff will continue to check out materials for anyone who does not wish to use self-check. The process is simple and the self-check station automatically prints out a slip listing the items checked out.
