CONDOR FACTS California Condors used to range from British Columbia to Northern Baja California. Condors nest in hollowed out portions at the top of redwoods and in small caves on cliff faces. Condors eat an average of two to three pounds of carrion per feeding. While condors eat only dead and decaying animals that take great care in cleaning themselves after every feeding. An adult condor’s wingspan reaches nearly 12 feet. Condors can live up to 60 years in the wild. Condors don’t breed until they are six to eight years of age and only lay one egg every two years after reaching sexual maturity. Condors are very social birds, while they can fly hundreds of miles in day, they prefer to feed and roost together. Condors mate for life. Condors cannot fly away with even the smallest child.
