Neptune is the second largest planet by diameter. True or False? How long does it take for Neptune to orbit the Sun? How many hours are there in a day on Neptune? What year was Neptune discovered in? What method did Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier use to discover Neptune? What produces the blue murky colour in Neptune? List two of the materials/gases in which composes the outer third of Neptune. 1. 2. Neptune QUIZ The furthest Planet from the Sun Results of an Investigation Interesting Facts 600 Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun in the Solar system, in other words the furthest. By diameter, it is the forth largest planet, and the third largest by mass. The equatorial diameter of Neptune is 49,532 kilometers. Furthermore, Neptune has a mass of 1.0247e26 kg. Incredibly, every 165 years Neptune orbits the Sun. Comparing to a day on Earth, Neptune has a shorter day. It only has 16 hours and 6.7 minutes. Neptune was discovered on September 23, 1846. It was the first planet discovered through mathematical predictions. As you can see, this planet has a cloudy baby blue colour. Methane in Neptune p produces the blue murky colour. Neptune is a mixture of many different gases and materials. Molten rock, water, liquid ammonia and methane composed the first two thirds of Neptune. The outer third of it is a mixture of heated gases comprised of hydrogen, helium, water and methane. My hypothesis was that the closer the planet is to the Sun, the hotter the temperature. As you can see, my hypothesis was right. Also, there’s a anomoly in this graph, as Mercury has a lower eventhough it is closer to the Sun than Venus. The reason for this is that Mercury is so close to the Sun that it ‘melts’ the atmosphere around Mercury, there fore it cannot trap as much heat as Venus. Whereas Venus has more gas around it thus it can trap more heat. 7000
