Parent Information Night

Parent Information Night
Wednesday April 22, 2015
6:30-8:30 pm
Sexuality and Relationships
Having conversations with your adolescent
about sexuality and relationships can
challenge any parent, but add into the mix
your unique concerns about your child with
special needs, and it might seem
impossible! Thankfully, it is not! You
CAN do this, and your kids need you
to. Join us for an evening focused on
building up your comfort level around the
topics of relationships, dating and sexuality,
giving you opportunities to hear from
experts and other parents about what works
(and what doesn't!), and practicing some of
these conversations. Your young person
needs your wisdom, your values and your
love--this evening will leave you more
prepared to share them!
Presented by Nina Jonson
Nina has worked in the field of adolescent sexual
health for the past 10 years. Through this work, she
has provided expert leadership and training on
adolescent sexual health, sexuality education and
adolescent-friendly clinical services. Professionals,
parents, and teens relied on Nina’s expertise and
contagious spirit to make these sometimes
challenging topics manageable. Nina has reached
countless audiences through her engaging
symposiums, panels, and trainings in schools,
professional organizations, community organizations
and media outlets. Nina now works as the Director of
Training and Outreach at the Mentoring Partnership
of Minnesota, and is an independent consultant and
trainer on adolescent sexual health promotion,
particularly as it pertains to special populations. She

Ready Set Go:
Simple strategies to use at home!
This session will highlight low tech portable
visual support strategies that families can
create and use on the go! When children see
what is expected, they can better understand
what it is they need to do in a variety of
situations, including the home and
community. This session will also include
supporting and encouraging communication
which will lead to children becoming more
independent. Participants will receive a
whiteboard and dry erase marker.
