Teaching and Learning This Week
This week the teaching and learning has been
based around the theme ‘What a wonderful
world…The Jungle’. The children have listened
to and discussed the story The Gossipy
Parrot, written clues to describe an animal
that inhabits a jungle, created jungle animal
masks and explored comparing the weights of
objects. They have also had the opportunity
to engage within other ‘What a wonderful
world…The Jungle’ themed learning activities.
Ideas for learning at home
Read fiction and non fiction books about
jungle creatures.
Explore and compare the weight of objects
discussing which is heaviest and lightest.
Outdoor learning
There will be outdoor learning
tomorrow Friday 17th March 2017.
We will be visiting the Alderbrook site
so please send in appropriate clothing
for this learning opportunity.
Educational Visit

Letters and sounds
Mrs Jones: the children have learnt the digraph oo as in book (short
sound) and the digraph oo as in moon (long sound). They have read
words containing these digraphs and written words containing these
digraphs in isolation and as part of a sentence.
Mrs Cheshire: They have revisited the digraph qu and in quiz and
learnt the digraphs ch as in chop and sh as in shut. They have read
words containing these digraphs and written words containing these
digraph in isolation and as part of a caption or sentence.
Miss Johnson: They have revisited the digraph qu and in quiz and
learnt the digraphs ch as in chop and sh as in shut. They have read
words containing these digraphs and written words containing these
digraph in isolation and as part of a caption or sentence.
Mrs Clover:The children have re-visited k as in kit and ck as in sock.
The children have practised reading and writing these sounds in simple
words.
Number Groups
Mrs Cheshire and Miss Johnson:
This week the children have explored weight.
They have used the balancing scales to compare
weigh, used the language heavy, heavier and
heaviest and light, lighter and lightest. They
have also weighed objects using non-standard
measures e.g. pebbles and cubes.
