Open Markups Printing Tool Advanced Map Navigation Tools Lidar Viewer Getting Started In the Lidar Viewer there are several main areas that will help you to navigate through the map. 1. Main tool bar. 2. Multiple views tool bar. 3. Zoom/Extent tool bar. Tool Bars Main Tool Bar: Zoom To Identify Elevation Elevation Profile Draw and Measure Print Help Multiple Views tool bar: This tool bar allows you to switch between the different views shown. Aerials: Terrain: The triangle in circled will allow you to show the aerial at different levels of transparence. Contours: The Contours tab will turn on and off different contour intervals depending on how far zoomed in you are in the map. And the triangle again shows the contours at different transparence levels. Flood Planning Layers: This tab shows the extents of a couple of different historical floods. The triangle shows the flood polygons at different transparence levels. Labels: This can be toggled on and off to show River and Road lables on the map. Zoom/Extent tool bar: In this tool bar you can zoom in and out, pan and go to different extents. By moving the triangle on the slider bar you can zoom in and out of the current extent on the map. Back to top How to use Tool Bars Zoom to Location: County: By selecting a county, the zoom tool will zoom to that county in the Red River Basin. Watershed: By selecting a watershed, the zoom tool will zoom to that watershed located in the Red River Basin. Township/Range: By selecting the township and rand, the zoom tool will zoom to that specific township and range on the map. Minimize/Close: Clicking on these buttons will minimize and close the tool. By clicking on the symbol it will open the tool, to be used. This process will be the same for every tool in this application. Back to top Identify: By clicking on the identify tool you will get GPS coordinates of that location and the elevation of that point from the DNR DEM. The DEM is 3 meters. The tool will only identify areas where the DEM is available. By turning on the DEM in the layers you can see the areas that can be identified. When done using the tool make sure to close the tool. Back to top Mark Up Drawings: In the Drawing tool you can mark up the map in a variety of different ways. There are points, lines, polygons and text that you can put on the map for your personal use. You can then save your markups and send them to other people. They can then open that file and display it on their map at their end. There is also the added feature showing the measurements for the points, lines and polygons. This can be turned on and off by checking the show measurements box. Point: First click on the point make your choices and then click on the point symbol and then click the location that you want it on the map. Choose type of point. Choose color of point. Choose to add a label. Then place your points on the map by clicking the point button and click on the map. You will have to click on the button each time you want to place a point on the map. Back to top Line: First click on the line make your choices and then click on the line symbol and then click the location that your line on the map. Once all preferences are set start drawing you lines on the map, to stop drawing the line double click the mouse. This will end the line segment. Each time you want to draw a new line, click on the line symbol that you want. Back to top Polygon: First click on the polygon make your choices and then click on the polygon symbol and then click the location that your polygon on the map. Choose style of polygon. Choose which polygon. The regular polygon you need to click on the map and continue single clicking to get the area needed and then double click to finish the sketch. With the freehand polygon click on the map and hold down and drag the mouse around to make your polygon. With the rectangle click and hold down to drag the rectangle around the area desired. Back to top Text: First click on the text symbol make your choices and then click on the text symbol and then click the location that your text on the map. Draw Elevation Label: This will put a label on the map where ever you click. Elevations will not appear outside the terrain area. To clear objects or text that you put on the map, just click on the recycling bin. This will clear everything from the map. Saving map objects: To save the objects in the map click on the disk on the Draw tool bar. This warning will pop up once you have click on the save button. Click yes to save. And then navigate to a spot to save it. Notice the graphics will be gone from your map once they have been saved. To get them back, you will have to open them up. Open map objects: Click on file folder to open your saved graphics. Navigate to where you have your graphics saved. Then open the graphics and they will appear on your map. Back to top Printing Tool: The printing tool will allow you to print what you have visible on the page. Just click on the printing tool on the tool bar and this message will appear asking for the title of the map. When done click on the “Click HERE to save a PDF map” and that will open a new window to direct where to save the PDF. Back to top Advanced Map Navigation Tools In addition to using the tools on the tool bar for navigating the map, you can use your mouse or keyboard. Navigating using the mouse Zoom in: Position your cursor on the map where you want to zoom in. Roll your mouse wheel forward to zoom in on the map at the current cursor location. Zoom out: Position your cursor on the map where you want to zoom out. Roll your mouse wheel backward to zoom out on the map at the current cursor location. Zoom to a specific area: Move to the area of the map where you want to zoom. Press Shift and click to start the zoom box and drag the mouse to the opposite corner of the area you want to zoom in (making a box around that area) Release the mouse button. The map is zoomed to the selected area. To zoom out, press Alt + Shift when drawing the rectangle. Click on the map and drag it to the desired location. Pan: Re-center: Press the Shift key and click on the map to re-center it on the clicked location. Re-center and Zoom: Double-click on the map to re-center and zoom in at the clicked location. To zoom out, press the Alt key when double-clicking. Navigating using the keyboard Pan: Click on the map. Then click on the arrow keys to pan the map East, West, North or South. Zoom in: Click on the map. Press the plus (+) key to zoom into the center of the map. Zoom out: Click on the map. Press the minus (-) key to zoom out form the center of the map. Back to top
