The Word in Our Lives:
Readings for March 27, 2016
Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
First Reading: Acts 10:34a, 37-43
Peter proceeded to speak and said: “You know what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after
the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. He
went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses
of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a
tree. This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the
witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He
commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living
and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive
forgiveness of sins through his name.”
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23
Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-4
Brothers and sisters: If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the
right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden
with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.
Gospel: John 20:1-9
On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw
the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and
told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.” So Peter and the other
disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the
tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he
went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths
but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he
saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.
La Palabra en Nuestra Vidas:
27 de marzo 2016
Domingo de Pascua La Resurrección del Señor
Primera Lectura: Hechos 10, 34a. 37-43

Stewardship
RICE BOWL COLLECTION
Due to the early bulletin deadlines the collection
amounts will be published next week. Thank you for
accepting the responsibility of faithful stewardship.
I am pleased to report that our monthly offertory
contributions through ACH (automatic clearing house,
a.k.a. electronic transfer) now exceed $12,000 monthly
comprised of over 150 participants. This process has
been in place for a few years now and is a safe and
secure way to make a weekly offertory contribution.
All offertory contributions, including special
offertories, can also be set-up through ACH. If elected,
you can still receive weekly envelopes and check the
box indicating you give electronically to preserve the
gesture of giving at Mass if you wish to do so. ACH
also helps with cash flow planning purposes for the
parish budget. If interested, please contact the main
office for a simple sign-up form.
John Sanders, President, Finance Council

VOCATIONS REFLECTION
Jesus tells His disciples “I am among you as the one
who serves.” And in every age, He calls some from
among His disciples to serve as religious sisters and
brothers, as deacons, and as priests. Have you ever
considered that He might be calling you? If so, please
contact Father Norman Carroll, Diocesan Director of
Priestly and Religious Vocations (302-573-3113,
[email protected]). Be sure to visit our website:

PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
PREPARATION NEWS
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION
Religious Education registration forms and schedules
are now available on the parish website. Registrations
and your preferred method of payment are accepted on
a first-come, first-served basis until August 31, 2016. A
copy of the Diocesan “Form A” must be filled out
annually and submitted for each student at the time of
registration. Also, please note that this year we have
seven different sessions- four sessions that follow a
three hour time frame, two sessions that follow a two
and a half hour time frame, and one session that follows
a ninety minute time frame. Confirmation of session
selection will be communicated via e-mail. We also
offer a Special Needs Religious Education program.
Please contact the Religious Education office at
302.378.5800, ext. 107 for further information. If your
child has completed grade level one and is enrolling in
grade level two you must complete a separate form to
register for the sacramental preparation of
Reconciliation and Eucharist. This is a separate
process from Religious Education class registration and
has a separate schedule and fee. St. Joseph Parish has
one of the largest Religious Education programs in our
diocese. We are blessed with many, many catechists
who are willing to share their faith with our children.
As our program grows, we are always in need of
volunteers and gratefully welcome any parent that is
willing to share their time and talent. Please contact
Mary Kirk in the Religious Education office,
302.378.5800, ext. 107 or via email at
[email protected] if you are interested
in learning more about this ministry.

you. The Bereavement Support Group will begin

fellowship will begin at 7:0opm in the Parish Center.
Please Fr. Tim Brady at 302-378-5800 for more
details.
PARENTING POINTERS
On "Good" Friday, we remember that Jesus
experienced humiliation and the physical suffering of
the crucifixion. Death is the ultimate letting go of self.
Few of us will be in a position to surrender our lives
for our faith through physical martyrdom, but letting
go of pride and ego can be a spiritual martyrdom and
not for the fainthearted. Take stock of your attitudes of
pride, self-righteousness, and wanting to be right and
important today. Help your children understand true
humility.
CHARISMATIC PRAYER MEETINGS
Come and see what a Charismatic prayer meeting is all
about. The next one will be Wednesday, March 23 at
7PM. We meet every Wednesday in the parish
complex. There is usually a brief teaching on one of
the charismatic gifts or aspect of faith, followed by
singing and praising the Lord. If you have any
questions, call Linda Wills @ 302-449-1498 or Cookie
Ruane @ 302-378-2217.
RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
program is designed to help Inquirers on their faith
journey. If you or someone you know has expressed an
interest in joining the Catholic Church, please contact
Deacon Tim Enright, 302-378-5800, ext. 119, or
[email protected].
WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY
Please join us for Bible Study on Wednesday mornings
at 9:30 AM in the parish center when we break open
the Scriptures for the coming Sunday. We encourage
people to share how the readings touch their lives or to
sit quietly and listen as others reflect on them. The
conversation is easy and informative. Come when and
as often as you’d like. If you have questions please call
302-378-5800.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS
A grain of wheat must fall to the ground and die to
produce much fruit. (Jn 12:24) What needs to die in
you to bear fruit in your marriage? Pride? The desire to
always be right? Wanting stuff your way? Avoiding
decisions? Humble yourself today.
