Jaguar Roar Feb 27

The Jaguar Roar
February 27-March 10
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
a busy week we have had. This week, we honored Pink Day, with close to 90% of our students wearing pink
`10What
shirts to show their support for anti-bullying awareness. We had our second School Council sponsored Fun Lunch,
which was another smashing success! Angels For Mexico presented to our students (see the write-up on the right
below!). At the end of last week, we hosted a Sock Hop for our elementary students. Our final tally of socks
collected for the Mustard Seed was 345 pair. Our Shrove Tuesday breakfast for students is set for next Tuesday.
Thank you to our parent volunteers and School Council for your assistance. On Ash Wednesday, we are joining the
community mass at 9:00 am. Our Grade 6 families are invited to our Junior High Open House on March 8th, at 6:00
pm. And finally, a special thanks to one of our families for the generous donation of 500 pink bracelets! Each
student and staff member was wearing pink, showing our commitment and solidarity being kind to each other.

Information:
Angels for Mexico
In 2014, the St. Joseph playground was taken down
to be donated to the Angels for Mexico (AFM)
organization. Our playground was taken to La
Puerta de la Lima to be reconstructed as their kids
did not have a playground in their town. A kid
named Jesus (Chewy) asked if he could help build
the playground and he did. None of the other kids
asked to help.
Building the playground was hard because
they needed to dig 66 holes that were 4ft deep
with only shovels and other hand tools. Although
they got it done in 4 days, they were exhausted.
AFM also built soccer nets and brought soccer
jerseys for all the kids. At the end ceremony, there
were about 150 kids playing on their new
playground. Some kids didn’t know how to play on
a playground because they have never had one. As
for Chewy, he was welcomed into the AFM family.
The kids of St. Joseph school are very
happy to see that our old playground is in good
hands and being loved by the kids of La Puerta de la
Lima.
