USCL’s Native American Studies Center celebrates South Carolina Archaeology Month with
three Free events October 15th, 16th and 17th.
The theme of South Carolina Archaeology Month this year focuses on The Yamasee Indian War: 17151717. The Yamasee were a confederated group of Native peoples who came together in the shatter
zone of the European invasion of Georgia and ultimately migrated to the south coast of South Carolina
around 1684 from Florida. Abuse by white traders and Colonial officials led to hostilities and eventually
the Yamasee fled South Carolina in 1717 in the aftermath of what became known as the Yamasee War.
