The Wallenberg Day, 18th January 2015 in Vancouver
Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish diplomat who saved about 100,000 people
from certain death in German concentration camps during World War II. He
was stationed in Hungary, and was then captured by the Russians and died in
a Russian prison after the war about 1947. He is one of the few people who
have received an honorary citizenship in Canada. His memory is celebrated
each year, now the tenth in Vancouver with different films that show how people can have their own convictions and help and save other people without
asking anything in return. And often they are exposing themselves to significant risks.
At this Wallenberg Day we give the first Award in B.C. for Civil Courage in the
presence of the Lieutenant Governor and the Mayor of Vancouver. Save the
date 18th January 2015 at 1:30 pm and
come to the Wosk Auditorium, 950 W 41st
Ave, Vancouver, for the Award ceremony
and to see the film "The Rescuers", followed by a reception. Entrance is free, but
donations are welcome. Arranged by the
Wallenberg-Sugihara Civil Courage Society www.wsccs.ca.
