HONDURAS Aldea Lomitas del Este. Colonia Zandoval Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church 2015 Investment Aldea Lomitas del Este. Colonia Zandoval, Yoro, Olanchito, Honduras WATER Community Details “We have had hard times accessing clean water. There were times in which our children and ladies had to go visit other communities in order to obtain water. They also had to walk long distances to the river in order to obtain water as well,” according to community members. This was the reality for the 200-household community of Aldea Lomitas del Este. Colonia Zandoyal. Parents were forced to watch their children suffer without not only a safe water source, but also, at times, without water at all. Burdens for the people of Honduras extended past their inability to access water, as malaria gravely impacted many families while others suffered from regular bouts of internal worms, dehydration and diarrhea. Knowing that if they could somehow have access to a good, safe water source, many of their struggles would naturally dissolve, community leaders reached out to the Living Water Honduras team and asked for help. Because of the generous donation from Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Living Water and a short-term team were able to enter the community with the hope of safe water and saving-love of Jesus Christ. The Living Water drill team was successfully able to secure safe drinking water by drilling a 22-meter-deep well, capping the well with an Afridev hand pump and chlorinating the water source. Not only was safe secured but safe hygiene and sanitation practices were learned as families were taught how to keep both their bodies and their new well clean. The people also established an eight-person water committee that was trained to maintain their well and manage the water resources. The people were finally allowed peace knowing that they would no longer be affected by unsafe water and had been equipped with newly-learned hygiene and sanitation defenses to battle water-related illness! The community shared, “Our lives will now improve greatly due to this well. We encourage you to keep working hard, because there are communities who do not have access to clean water.” Support, love and commitment for the people of Aldea Lomitas del Este. Colonia Zandoyal poured out as safe water flowed from their new well, and as the people were introduced to their Creator through Scripture and oral Bible stories. The local church also supported the Living Water team and will continue to work with families so that everyone will have an opportunity to seek salvation in Christ. In all, 200 families people were shown love and told about a God who cares for them and who calls them his own. Thank you, Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church, for your donation that has transformed life for the people of Honduras. Project Details Product Location of water point New Aldea Lomitas del Este. Colonia Zandoval, Yoro, Olanchito, Honduras FOR LIFE Hygiene Promotion During the week, the Living Well Club taught the people how to care for their well, make safe hygienic and sanitary choices and how to prevent disease. The team used the LWI Traditional Method to address lessons on germs, hand washing and proper water-saving techniques, diarrhea doll and causes of diarrhea, Living Well Club Bible stories, disease transmission stories, proper care of the pump and keeping the water clean. According to the Living Well Club: The health and hygiene lessons were relevant to the village and people. All of the people seemed to understand the lessons taught. Our team evangelist was a blessing for the women and children and also for us when we came to serve. The people were so helpful with preparing and guiding us with both the hygiene and Bible lessons. Community Member Interview “We are blessed to have this wonderful project in our community,” shared 58-year-old community member and farmer, Manuel Zandoval Cabera. “We have had hard times accessing clean water. There were times in which our children and ladies had to go visit other communities in order to obtain water. They also had to walk long distances to the river in order to obtain water as well. We thank the team for the hard work they have done in our community; God knows we are truly thankful. Our lives will now improve greatly due to this well. We encourage you to keep working hard, because there are communities who do not have access to clean water. Thank you!” IN JESUS’ NAME Christian Witness It is Living Water’s goal to not only provide safe water and necessary hygiene and sanitation training to thirsty communities, but also to provide evangelical training materials and the gospel message with water-end users. To do this, the Living Water team partners with the local church when possible so that the church can continue to use the safe water provided as a means to bringing more people to know Jesus Christ. In Aldea Lomitas del Este. Colonia Zandoyal, the Living Water team did just that—partnered with the local church who shared Scripture messages and oral Bible stories with 108 people. A Living Water short-term team member commented on his time spent working in the community: I love how Living Water Staff members are so focused on Jesus. No matter what happens, Jesus is in control and has a purpose and a plan for our lives, for the village and even for us as newbies on the mission field. Jesus is our focus and hope. The gift of Living Water was shared everyday and in multiple situations. God's message and grace was evident in the joy of the women and children. The Living Water evangelist was so engaging and open with everyone, and he built strong relationships. 3 • Living Water International Aldea Lomitas del Este.
