Synergy Substitute TeacherVUE Setup
Target Audience: Administrators, Point-of-Contacts
This document was designed to show the setup for using the Substitute Teacher function within Synergy.
TeacherVUE enables you to give short-term substitute teachers limited access to TeacherVUE in order to do
basic, everyday tasks, such as taking attendance or lunch counts.
1. Creating Staff and User Records – Create a “Dummy” teacher account
a. Navigate to Synergy SIS >> Staff >> Staff and click Add
b. Fill in the Last Name and First Name (a good example would be Teacher, Substitute so that it
is easily identifiable).
c. Click Find, when the system does not find the account, click “Add New”
d. Be sure to enter Gender.
e. In the Type field, select Substitute from the drop down menu.
f. Create a Username and Password for the account and supply an Email address. Click Save.
g. Next, while looking at the new staff view, select the “Schools” tab and check the “Assign to
District” option then click Save.
2. Setting User Access and Focus
a. Navigate to Synergy SIS >> System > User >> User
b. Find the Substitute Teacher record you just created.
c. While looking at the Demographics tab, select the Exempt From LDAP option.
d. Next in the Default Mode field, select Inquiry then click Save.

e. Click on the Focus tab.
f. Set the Focus Year Selection field to the current year and click Save.
3. Enabling Substitute Teacher Processing
a. Navigate to Synergy SIS >> System >> Setup >> District Setup
b. Select the System Tab
c. Scroll down to the Substitute Teacher Options area and select the Allow substitute teacher
processing option.
d. Next click on the grey arrow next to the Generic Substitute Teacher User label. The Find:
RevUser screen displays. Search for the Substitute Teacher user account, select it, then click
Save.
4. Generating Individual Substitute Passwords
a. Navigate to Synergy SIS >> Staff >> Substitute Teacher Assignment
b. Select the Date the substitute is needed and select the teacher that require substitutes on the
selected date then click Save.
c. The system will display a password for each substitute in the Password column. See below…

5. Generating A Common Substitute Password
a. Navigate to Synergy SIS >> Staff >> Substitute Teacher Assignment
b. Select the Date the substitute is needed and select the teachers that require a substitute
teacher.
c. Click Generate common substitute password for me and click Save
d. The system generates a common password to be used by all substitutes on the selected date.
6. Printing Substitute Slips
a. Navigate to Synergy SIS >> Staff >> Substitute Teacher Assignment
b. Select the Date that the substitute is required then click Print Sub Slips.
c. The system generates a Substitute Teacher Slip for each substitute for the selected date. The
Slip includes the teacher they are substituting for, the classes, and their TeacherVUE password.
