Excursion planned was not cancelled although it could be very educative for students.Lecturers' presentations were clear and student had enough time to revise and think on the part through the seminars they were asked to make. This seminar approach was very helpful and can be recommended for other parts of the course. Through these seminars students thank about their respective topics and linked them to Physical geography, the discipline within they are admitted as PhD students. Some of exercises required skills in MATLAB, a software which all students don't master. The lecturer concerned should think about other exercises or other softwares known by students. It is also possible for the lecturer to introduce MATLAB to students with this special need and work with them. This will require more time for him by the way. Mean 3,2 Standard Deviation 0,4 Comment The lecturer provided enough reading materials and made good presentations.The main issue during this component was the time for both students and the lecturer. It was towards the end of the academic year and everyone had many things to finish before the year ends up. Biological concepts for no biologists were not easy to digest in such conditions. I strongly recommend not running this course again More emphasis on practical skills maybe add ecosystem modeling will be great Comment Given the short time given to each topic the lectures can only cover the general basics of the topic. Given, that to be accepted to do a PhD we need a masters degree, likely to be in one of these fields, making this course mandatory is insulting. A possible solution is to ask new PhD students to sit in on a minimum number of undergrad lectures in the wider geography fields (already taught here in Lund) that they are not specialized in and call that a course. This will also give the PhD students the chance to decide which subjects they should listen to in order to fill the knowledge gaps that they have. I would like to suggest you to add more problem solving discussions to the course. you can suggest some general problems to the students and they should choose one of the problems and prepare a discussion with other students and teachers could guide them to solve the problem. Excursions and seminars were almost few or absent for most of the parts of the course. I would like to increase their number in order to help students to develop practical skills.
