We have developed a set of 66 daily 4th Grade Writing lessons that integrate the requested mentor texts throughout the teaching of the "Six Traits of Writing." Sagewood Elementary Book Break Sagewood Elementary Sagewood Elementary Sagewood Elementary Noteworthy Nonfiction Sagewood Elementary Sagewood Elementary Being able to read closely to look for specific information is a skill that is essential for students. One of the best ways to practice reading closely to gain meaning from the text is through high quality nonfiction. Nonfiction texts are an excellent way to teach students to read analytically, and reading analytically is a skill that can be taught from as early as kindergarten.By having nonfictions readers for varying grade levels, all Sagewood students would have access to practicing the skill of locating specific information when reading. We are asking for funding to sponsor another Family Math Night. The theme of the night would be Gellin' with Geometry. Families would be invited to come to the school for 2 hours on a night in March to work, play, and Family Math Night- learn with math. Partnerships will be made, and families will recognize all of the ways that math can be applied -Gellin' with to every day life and home. The Family Math Night will cover concepts such as:Problem Solving, Spatial Geometry Awareness, Estimation, Fractions, Area and Perimeter, Plane Shapes and Solid Shapes, Congruency, Symmetry, and Shape Manipulation. Playaways are all-in-one device that include the audiobook, audio player and headphones. The simplicity of the device appeals to students making it easy to entice reluctant readers to use. This device will help increase comprehension, retention, vocabulary, phonemic awareness and fluency skills. The Playaways help to Using Playaways accommodate students who need text read aloud. Struggling readers will feel a sense of pride when they are to Inspire Reading able to independently read books and receive the same reading experiences as their peers. Playaways also help challenge and motivate higher-level readers with more advanced texts. Playaways appeal to all readers and can benefit all students at Sagewood. Sagewood Elementary Sagewood Elementary Summer reading is critical for development and consistency. Reading during the summer prevents the "summer slide."This classroom grant will benefit students K-5 at Sagewood Elementary. We will let students shop at the Scholastic Buy-One Get-One Book Fair in the Spring of 2017. Students will be able to choose 5 reading level appropriate books from the book fair. The books would be mailed to each student every 2 weeks in the summer. Flocabulary Sensory Station Flocabulary is a standards-based educational website that allows teachers and students to utilize grade level concepts in an engaging and interactive format. We would primarily take advantage of their vocabulary and social studies/current events modules, however there are several science and language arts tools that are available as well. Each module has multiple activities as well as an engaging rap that incorporates all of the unit vocabulary and concepts.“Flocabulary presents academic content in a highly-engaging, contemporary format. Videos let the topic speak for itself, providing students with both visual and aural exposure. And videos aren't only for introducing new topics: Use them to review and provide ongoing enrichment as well.” Flocabulary website Sagewood Elementary is looking to build a Sensory Station (sensory room) for the students in special education, as well as other students in the school that display these needs. A sensory room is an environment created to help students with sensory disabilities (ex: Autism). Each piece of equipment used in these rooms is designed to stimulate the student's senses through the use of various sounds, textures and colors. Sensory products help give students the confidence to move around safely and easily interact with their surroundings while boosting their self-esteem and allowing them to feel more in control of their surroundings. Social-emotional thinking and behavior are critical aspects of childhood development important for successful academic and life outcomes. Some children require direct teaching as they don't acquire these life skills Sagewood Social naturally. We are in need of additional research based curricula and instructional materials such as books and supplemental activities. Skills taught include emotional-behavioral regulation, expected and unexpected Thinking behaviors, whole body listening skills, problem-solving strategies, perspective taking, cooperation, peer Instructional relationship building, and conversational skills to name a few. Our students will benefit from having access to Materials instructional materials that will help them become more equipped to handle every day challenges. A major focus during the Kindergarten reading block is letter identification, phonemic awareness, word work and sight words. The grant would purchase materials for individual literacy stations that excite, challenge, and engage students. Adding items such as phonics flip books, alphabet mystery sifters or rhyming sounds sorting Building Literacy houses from Lakeshore Learning will enhance the instruction students receive while not working directly with Every Day the classroom teacher during guided reading. The activities requested will provide hands-on, interactive learning for all Kindergarten students at Sagewood. The club would focus on opportunities to explore higher- level math and science.
