Delving Deeper Here is what Reception will be looking at the week after Easter. If you could run through this with your child in preparation, that would enable us to delve even deeper into the learning and ensure your child has a head start! This is not homework. Simply a quick chat with your child. Please help us to get your child excited and invigorated about the learning ahead. If you have any questions, we are here to help after school. Thank you for supporting your child in this way. We have really noticed how much you have been doing at home! Week beginning 24th April 2017 Maths Theme: This week we are learning to solve mathematical problems. Task: Can you count the eggs in an egg box? Questions to ask: How many eggs are there? If you had double the amount how many would you have? If you had two lots of four eggs how many would there be altogether? Reading (Please remember to read EVERY day and record it in the reading diary.) Key Text: Egg drop by Mini Grey Theme: This week we will be continuing with our new topic ‘On the farm’. We will be looking closely at ‘Egg Drop’ by Mini Grey. Task: Read ‘Egg Drop’ or any books related to farms. Alternatively watch one on the internet. Questions: What will happen to the egg if it falls from the sky? Can you think of an alternative ending? Phonics: Can you practise reading two syllable words eg let/ter, ham/mer, jum/per, car/ton. Questions: Can you sound out the first part of the word? Can you count how many syllables there are by clapping? Can you sound out the second part of the word? Word sets: Practise reading the words ‘them’, ‘then’, ‘that’ and ‘this’ which are in the homeschool diaries. Writing and Communication and Language Theme: We are learning to write facts about chickens. Task: Can you find out some facts about chickens? Questions to ask? Can you write the facts in a sentence? Can you use bullet points, fingers spaces and full stops? What else could you do? Physical Development: Can you talk about the importance of eating healthy food? Can you talk about food that is healthy and food that is not so healthy? Expressive arts and design: Can you collage a picture of an egg? Alternatively can you draw and decorate an egg? PSED: We are soon to be getting chicken eggs in the classroom. Can you talk about the importance of looking after chickens and eggs?
