AUGUST & EARLY SEPTEMBER RELEASES 2014
greenville, sc is everywhere!
Once again we’re on a roll—scoring another month of great media wins. Media value alone from our recent PR
successes commands more than $500,000 in media value—now THAT’s some bank for the month of August/
early September. Don’t forget you can view the articles in their entirety by clinking on the links below. As always,
happy reading!
“the gumption of greenville”
September 2014. Giannina Smith Bedford visited yeahTHATgreenville this June after
a pursuit by VisitGreenvilleSC. She raves about Greenville, SC in the September issue
of Simply Buckhead, an upscale magazine in the Atlanta area with a circulation of
13,000. Favorite Quote: “The next time this captivating South Carolina destination
is brought up in conversation, I’ll be the one enthusiastically exclaiming ‘You’ve got to go to Greenville!’”
“america’s quirkiest towns
towns—
—#17 greenville, sc”
September 2014. We worked with Travel + Leisure on this unique pitch – ‘America’s
Quirkiest Towns’ – where we ended up ranking #17 along with some good company:
Asheville #1, Aspen #6, Sonoma #10. We pitched a variety of topics including Mice on
Main, but the Liberty Bridge once again was the rising star. Favorite Quote:
“Greenville also placed in the top 10 for being hip.”
“...stylish indie twists on southern charm”
September 2014. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the full page of editorial coverage in Better
Homes & Gardens – giving shout-outs to multiple establishments in yeahTHATgreenville! We’ve
heard one retailer – Beija-Flor Jeans – commenting that calls and orders are off the chart as a direct result of this editorial. This piece alone has a national reach of 7.6 million people. And oh, by
the way, the national page rate for a full color page in BHG is $470,000—now that’s some serious
value! Favorite Quote: “aka – G-Vegas, for its vibrant social scene. What happens in Greenville…”
“carolina kudos
—greenville has won acclaim for its renaissance”
kudos—
September 2014. Freelance writer Katherine Brown was on assignment from Small Market
Meetings to cover up-and-coming Greenville, SC. With five pages of coverage and a beautiful
cover position featuring the cover photo and headline, we couldn’t be more pleased with this
coverage targeting small market meeting planners planning meetings, conferences and events in
2nd and 3rd tier cities and beyond. Favorite Quote: “Greenville’s been hogging the headlines
lately.”
AUGUST & EARLY SEPTEMBER RELEASES 2014
“top 10 things to do in greenville south carolina”
August 27, 2014. Favorite Quote: “Out of 30 U.S. cities named Greenville, it’s the one in the heart of South
Carolina’s upcountry that stands out and makes you say, ‘Yeah, that Greenville!’”
You’ve got to love it when a journalist not only embraces the brand YTG, but out of the
gate leads with it in her editorial coverage. That’s exactly what Teri Johnson did in her
recent Huffington Post piece on Greenville, SC. We couldn’t be more excited with Teri’s
visit and experience. She was just picked up to host her own show on The Travel Channel and also writes regularly for
Ebony among other national titles. We’re hoping to see more great things from Teri down the road.
“america’s best main streets 2014”
August 17, 2014. In July, we told you it was coming. We had made Parade’s nomination list of
16 “America’s Best Main Streets” finalists. What we didn’t know is how the national voting
public would weigh in. Well, on August 17, 2014, Greenville, SC claimed the #8 spot – once
again claiming another top 10. And in terms of eyeballs, we’re talking major awareness with a
circulation of 32,000,000. And this 1/16 page of ink is minimally worth $62,700! We’ll take
THAT any day of the year. Favorite Quote: “Year–round, the tree-lined Main Street is strung with twinkling lights
that give it a ‘fairy tale’ feeling.”
“interesting beers from breweries around the u.s.”
August 1, 2014. When Cheapflights.com was looking for cool beers, we were able to get
Greenville’s Quest Brewing Co.’s Ponce Saison into the roundup! Favorite Quote: “You’ll
smell it before you taste it, as a fiery trail of jalapenos hits your nose and threatens to
burn your tastebuds into submission.”
“10 reasons to visit greenville, sc”
August 2014. Chattanooga’s Chatter Magazine gives their spin on 10 Reasons to Visit. This
magazine is distributed monthly with the Chattanooga Free Press. Favorite Quote: “We at
Chatter like to think of Greenvillians as kindred spirits who you definitely want to meet.”
“heir apparent”
August 2014. In an earlier issue of In The News, we shared nationally renowned food critic John
Mariani paid another visit to Greenville this spring during Artisphere to see how much our destination
has grown since his last visit almost two years ago. It appears he was impressed to say the least! Just
released in Celebrated Living is Mariani’s take on “5 Unexpected Culinary Destinations,” now available
in American Airline’s first class cabins. Mariani highlights five U.S. cities that “are morphing into
unexpected culinary destinations worthy of any foodie’s attention.” We’re in the consideration set with some great
company – Austin, Santa Barbara, Kansas City, Providence and yeahTHATgreenville! Favorite Quote: “Greenville’s
visionary city fathers have changed this once-sleepy textile town into a dynamic attraction for major corporations
like BMW, Michelin and General Electric – good neighbors who have poured money into the arts and charity, leading to a thriving cultural scene.”
