JAQ-JIM NATURAL SKIN CARE
What does your business name mean to you?
Jaq-Jim is a combination of our abbreviated names,
Jacqui and James. We chose Jaq-Jim because our skin
care products are deeply personal and reflective of the
sustainable and natural path we think skin care should take.
EGGNOG MONTE CRISTOS
How long have you been making your products?
We have been making our moisturizer for over 3 years.
We started making it to help with James’s Rosacea and
Psoriasis, which he was struggling to control. One of the
challenges was the prescribed daily routine of
antihistamines and anti-fungals that were not working
consistently. In 2011 we created a mixture of natural
ingredients and vitamins that helped restore James’s skin
within 24 hours.
What most differentiates your products?
Our products are 100% natural, but we go beyond 99% of
other natural products by not including water. There are
several reasons not to include water; the first is all
water-based products need preservatives to prevent
bacteria and mold from growing in them. Natural
preservatives haven’t been fully developed yet, so many
natural preservatives are not perfectly effective and can
be troublesome to people with sensitive skin. Natural
products also include “complimentary” preservatives like
alcohols or essential oils, which usually are dissolved in
alcohols. These ingredients dry out skin, which is the
opposite of why you are buying the moisturizer, and are
even worse for people with sensitive skin. Secondly water
is just a filler, and doesn’t moisturize your skin. Think about
how dry your skin gets after taking a shower. The oils and
butters are the ingredients that actually moisturize. By not
including water in our products, we are both creating
moisturizers that are much more effective, but also
healthier for your skin and less Irritating to sensitive skin.
1 1/2 tablespoons dijon mustard
1/2 cup eggnog
1 1/2 tablespoons mayonnaise
Generous pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
9 slices white sandwich bread
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
6 slices muenster or gouda cheese Confectioners' sugar, for dusting (optional)
6 slices oven-roasted turkey
Cranberry sauce, for serving
6 slices baked ham
1. Mix the mustard and mayonnaise in a small bowl. Lay out 3 slices of bread
and brush each with about 1 teaspoon of the mustard mixture. Top each piece
of bread with 1 slice each of cheese, turkey and ham. Cover with another slice
of bread and brush with another teaspoon of the mustard mixture; top each
sandwich with another slice each of cheese, turkey and ham. Brush the
remaining 3 bread slices with the mustard mixture and place mustard-side
down on top of the sandwiches.
2. Trim the crusts, then wrap the sandwiches tightly with plastic wrap. Chill in
the refrigerator at least 30 minutes and up to 6 hours. (Wrapping the
sandwiches helps keep them compact.)
3. Whisk the eggnog and nutmeg in a shallow bowl. Unwrap the sandwiches
and dip in the eggnog, turning to coat both sides. Melt half of the butter in a
large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the sandwiches and cook until
the undersides are golden, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the remaining butter, flip the
sandwiches and cook until golden on the other side, about 3 more minutes.
4. Cut the sandwiches into quarters. Dust with confectioners' sugar, if
desired, and serve with cranberry sauce.
