A Very SAL Summer! - San Mateo County Sheriff`s Activities League

SHERIFF’S ACTIVITIES LEAGUE
A Very SAL Summer!
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Activities League (S.A.L.) is hosting
fun-for-the-whole-family events all summer! Every Tuesday S.A.L.
is hitting the streets…literally. See schedule and locations at left.
The summer PLAY STREET program closes off streets and other
public areas to give children safe, supervised and fun-filled places
to play and learn. PLAY STREETS offer prevention education,
sports, games and cultural arts activities. Youth and families also
meet the local community policing deputies and S.A.L. staff which
continues our mission of Building the Bond Between Cops and
Kids!

FIRST PLACE FLOAT!!
Teen Leadership Council members
helping with float construction
S.A.L. staff and deputies worked together with
S.A.L.’s Teen Leadership Council (TLC) to create a
patriotic themed float that was entered in the
Redwood City 4th of July Parade (the largest
parade east of the Mississippi). Deputies from the
Community Policing Unit, S.A.L. staff and kids
rode on the float, waving their flags and singing
along to K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag.” Marching with
the float were members of the FC S.A.L.
Academicos (S.A.L.'s club soccer with a purpose
program) and the S.A.L. Folkorico Dancers from
the South County chapter. The participants’ hard
work paid off when it was announced that the
float placed 1st in the Amateur Float Division, and
the Folklorico dancers placed 1st in the dance
division!
OUR MISSION
August 2011
VOL #1 ISSUE #4
San Mateo County Sheriff’s Activities League
The mission of the San Mateo County SAL is to provide positive
programs for the youth of the community in sports and recreation, life
skills activities, and educational activities while building the bond
between law enforcement and youth.
As a member of CalPAL
As the premier law enforcement based non-profit youth agency in the
state of California, we are committed to offer the youth of California a
wide variety of athletic, educational and youth enriching programs that
allow PAL youth from all around the state to come together to compete,
learn and be enlightened in a safe and supervised environment.
www.calpal.org
As a National PAL chapter
National Night Out Event
PAL is a youth crime prevention program that utilizes educational,
athletic and recreational activities to create trust and understanding
between police officers and youth. It is based on the conviction that
young people - if they are reached early enough - can develop strong
positive attitudes towards police officers in their journey through life
toward the goal of maturity and good citizenship. The PAL program
brings youth under the supervision and positive influence of a law
enforcement agency and expands public awareness about the role of a
police officer and the reinforcement of the responsible values and
attitudes instilled in young people by their parents . www.nationalpal.org
