My role this week for literature circles is investigator and was talked about quite a lot during the chapters I’ve just recently read because of the band ‘Luxe’ Miranda and Olive went to go see. For investigating music because it has a wide range of questions from a variety of different topics I’ve chosen the eras music explored. Music has been around for 55,000 + years and has evoled from many stages of creations of new types of music. These are classical, blues, country, dance, disco, electronic, funk, hip-‐hop, jazz etc MEDIEVAL MUSIC-‐ 500-‐1400 AD Medieval music was formed from virelais, estampies and ballades. These are French verses used in poetry. Most of the music in medieval times was associated with the church. One of these and one of the most famous written and performed piece of music in medieval times is the Gregorian Chant and Plainsong. Into the 11th and 13th century it w as written as an organum something that requires two or threes voice parts to read off a music sheet. O ne of the famous music composers of the medieval times is a French composor named Guillaume d e Machaut. PREHISTORIC MUSIC-‐ 3500BC Prehistoric music was created before 3500BC. You’ll find that prehistoric music mainly comes from tribes such as Native American and Australian Aboriginals etc. Most pre historic music is found in non-‐ European countries. The first known instrument its self was of course the human voice as it w as found from sounds, rhythms and hymns. RENAISSANCE MUSIC 1400-‐1600 AD Renaissance period w as all about harmony and softness but had not yet developed classical music until the very end which is mainly the next period. They used choral which is known as choir today. In this period they developed music with contrast instead of being just on one note. This could be like starting o n one note and slowly differing to another for emphasis. Lots of people moved away from the modal system in music which had been around for over 300 years! BAROQUE 1600-‐1750 AD During the Baroque period the idea of the modern o rchestra w as born along with the creation of opera (this also included prelude, aria, recitative and chorus), the concerto, sonata, and modern cantata. The rather soft-‐grained viol string which was a music instrument of the Renaissance was gradually replaced by the bolder violin, viola and cello, the harpsichord was invented. CLASSIC 1750-‐1830 Classical period which saw the introduction form o f a quite deliquet and soft music came the development of the modern concerto, symphony, sonata, trio and quartet.. The Classical age were sown by a number of composers whose names are now largely forgotten such as Schobert. The most famous composers from this period is Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn. Mozart and Beethoven both worked in Vienna. The piano w as also introduced in this area and is now one of the biggest instruments people learn to play. The horn, trumpet, clarinet, flute and obe were also introduced in this area in classical music. Beethoven soon created the Romantic era in the 1800s. ROMANTIC ERA 1830-‐1920 The romantic era was filled with very passionate music composers and this often made this music very dramatic and expressive. These songs were inspired by art and literature. Famous composers from this time are Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Mahler and Verdi. This music w as often very emotional and was played by a orchestra filled with many instruments. MODERN 1920-‐ In todays society music is broken up into many genres instead of having one particular type of music. As explained in the first paragraph of what todays music is. Music is now one of the biggest things in todays pop culture as it is heard from everywhere from shops, cities, resturants etc and more. Music is now in films and one of the famous musicians to involve music in films is John Williams who w rote the songs in Star Wars, E.T, Jaws, Harry Potter etc. Famous musicians in our time include Taylor Swift, Rhianna, Drake, Kayne West, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez etc.
