Cruz de Piedra Macabeo, Calatayud 2013 This great-value white is made by Bodegas Virgen de la Sierra who have superb high-altitude vineyards (750 to 1,100 metres above sea level) in Calatayud, a lesser-known region south-east of Rioja. Made from the local Spanish grape macabeo, this is a clean and fruity white with attractive lemony flavour and just a hint of fresh herbs. Tremendously easy drinking. 13.5% ref RC-SP8941 £5.95 bottle £71 dozen Las Olas Verdejo, Rueda 2013 A highly aromatic, mouthwatering white from organic vineyards in Spain’s most famous white wine region, Rueda. Its lemony acidity and grassy flavour are similar to good sauvignon blanc. Dry, full-flavoured with some richness. Full-flavoured, yet as crisp as a white from Burgundy.
