Children below the age of 10 cannot accurately have their measurements weighed. Digital Bodyfat Scale IM.indd 6 8/10/13 9:45 AM BEFORE FIRST USE To protect from accidental use activation during shipping, your scale is configured with a battery insulating strip located underneath the scale. Please remove the insulating strip before first use. Your scale will not turn on without first removing the strip. DISPLAY CHANGING THE BATTERIES • Replace the batteries with 2 x CR2032 lithium batteries • Ensure +/- terminals are correctly oriented • Please use a small tool to help remove the battery from the battery compartment if necessary. Digital Bodyfat Scale IM.indd 7 8/10/13 9:45 AM CHANGING THE UNIT OF MEASUREMENT The unit of measurement can easily be changed from pounds (Ibs) to kilograms (kg). With the scale turned on, simply push the unit button located underneath the scale to change the unit of measurement. MEASURING YOUR WEIGHT 1. Place the scale on a hard even surface. Note: the scale will be inaccurate on carpets and uneven surfaces. 2. Step onto the scale and remain still. Use caution when stepping on and off the scale. Do not lean toward the edges as this can cause the scale to tip, 3. Your weight will display on the LCD screen 4. The scale will automatically turn off after a few seconds of inactivity to conserve battery power Digital Bodyfat Scale IM.indd 8 8/10/13 9:45 AM PROGRAMMING YOUR USER PROFILE This scale has 8 personal memory profiles (PI-P8) that can be used to record gender and age for upto 8 different users. In order for this scale to provide measurements on body fat and water ratios, it must first have the person’s gender, height and age saved in one of the scales memory profiles, followed immediately by a reference weight. The scale will reference this information in the algorithms it uses to provide the body fat and water ratio measurements. Please note: you do not need to set up a memory profile if you only desire a weight measurement. 1. Select your desired unit of measurement (Ibs or kg) by using the switch located underneath the scale. 2. Turn the scale on by pressing the Set/Select button. 3. Select your user number (1-8) using the < or > arrow buttons. Then press the Set/Select button to confirm. 4. Select your gender using the < or > arrow buttons. Then press the Set/Select button to confirm. 5. Select your height using the < or > arrow buttons. Then press the Set/Select button to confirm. 6. Select your age using the < or > arrow buttons. Then press the Set/Select button to confirm. 7. After entering your age, 0.0 will display on the LCD screen. In order to complete the programming of your user profile, immediately step onto the scale to get your weight associated with your user profile. If you do not immediately step onto the scale while the LCD screen displays 0.0, start over from Step 2. Please note that the scale will automatically turn off after a few seconds of inactivity in order to preserve battery life. Note: To add additional users, simply repeat the steps above. Digital Bodyfat Scale IM.indd 9 8/10/13 9:45 AM MEASURING BODY FAT AND WATER RATIOS Note: You must place the scale on a hard, flat surface. Using the scale on carpets will cause inaccurate results. To generate body fat and water measurements, you must remove your shoes and socks and ensure your feet make good contact with the metal pads. This is because this scale uses BIS which sends a tiny electrical signal through the body, via the 4 metal pads. 1. First ensure that you have programmed a user profile by following the steps on the previous page. 2. Select your desired unit of measurement (Ibs or kg) by using the switch located underneath the scale. 3. Step onto the scale platform with your bare feet and stand still. Note: socks and shoes must be removed for the sensors to work properly. 4. Your body fat ratio, body water ratio and your weight will be displayed in the following order: 5. The scale will automatically turn off after a few seconds of inactivity. Please note that the scale can only determine your correct memory profile number if no other users stored weight is the same as or within a few kgs of your weight. If another users stored weight is the same as or within a few kgs of Digital Bodyfat Scale IM.indd 10 8/10/13 9:45 AM your weight, the scale will display a choice of memory profile numbers to select from. You can then use the Left and Right arrow keys to confirm the correct memory profile number. For example, if the scale determines that Profiles 1, 2 and 3 have the same of similar weights, the LCD screen will display P1/P2 followed by P2/P3 for you to select your profile. If, for example your profile is P2, simply press the right arrow button when P1/P2 displays on the screen. BODY FAT AND WATER RATIOS Body Fat Ratios Body Water (Hydration) Ratios Digital Bodyfat Scale IM.indd 11 8/10/13 9:45 AM INFORMATION ABOUT BODY FAT AND BODY WATER RATIOS This bathroom scale measures your weight, the electrical impedance between your feet, and combines these readings with the information you provide (height, age, gender). It uses this information to determine your body fat and body water (hydration) levels. Note: your level of hydration (body water content) varies throughout the day and can affect your impedance levels. If you are dehydrated, there is a greater chance the ratios detected by this scale will differ from what they would be when you are fully hydrated. Please also be aware that clothes can vary in weight and affect the ratio calculations. For the best accuracy, feet must be bare and clean. For best results, choose a consistent daily time to use this analyser, such as in the morning. By establishing the pattern of your body’s fluctuation over a period of one month, you can determine your average body fat and hydration ratios. Women will have more fluctuation in water content than men and need to monitor their reading over a longer period to establish a personal average. You should determine this as a reference point before measuring progress in a health program. It is recommended you wait several hours before attempting to measure your body fat reading when drinking coffee or alcohol, taking diuretic medications or exercising. These all affect your level of hydration and the accuracy of this scale. Ideal body fat content is not the same for all people. Age, sex and heredity are variables in the measurement. Accordingly, these tables should only be used as a general guide. A certain amount of body fat is important for healthy living. Body fat helps protect vital organs and cushions joints. It also stores fat soluble vitamins and breaks down into energy when food is scarce. Consult your physician to determine what is most ideal for you. Digital Bodyfat Scale IM.indd 12 8/10/13 9:45 AM Body water is an important component of body weight. It accounts for over half of your total weight and almost 66% of your lean body mass. Water is critical to healthy cell function in the body and in regulating your body’s temperature. An important hydration level is important for healthy living. Water plays many other important roles. It helps control the blood pressure by balancing electrolytes, it acts as a shock absorber to cushion the body’s organs, it helps lubricate joints, and it moistens the eyes, mouth and nasal passages.
