Issue 1 Shellfish, Shellfish and more Three Shellfish! Brothers Written by Jake T Did you know that Bridlington’s shellfish port is the largest in the whole of England? However, the port in Fraserburgh, Scotland is the biggest port in Europe. Bridlington keeps its shellfish fresh and alive in a ‘hot tub’ like container full of water. These then supplies local restaurants and some are even sent abroad to other countries. The port is so important because it provides food and allows people in the area to have a stable job. Written by TJ L The Three brothers was built in 1912 by Baker Sidall. It was restored in 2013 with help from the Harbour Commission. It’s now a wonderful fishing cobble. Help Me Out! Written by Abigail W Bridlington has its very own boat hoist in the harbour. It lifts boats out of the harbour so that boatmen can repair, repaint and fix their own boats. Family Fun Written by Edward H The harbour is a fun place to go for families. There are three main family boats, the two speedboats and the pirate ship. The pirate ship is an amazing boat taking you around Bridlington on a swash buckling adventure. The speedboats are bright orange, bright yellow and they usually go around 70 mph. There are some food outlets that sell fish and chips, ice cream and a range of drinks. ‘Always something you fancy here’ quoted a passer-by. Harbour History Written by TJ L The Great Gale happened in 1871. 70 sailors lost their lives and 30 ships were badly damaged.
