Situated on the edge of the picnic in the chilled out area of Global Green, Food Project is bringing together sustainable communities through creating menus that directly reflect the agriculture of our region. Making the decision to be more conscious of how the food we eat affects our environment, we make our menus backwards to shorten our food chain and to service the farmer as much as we wish to service the table. We are using the constraints of our local agriculture to help shape our menus as well as offer us the most flavourful foods around. Through using a network of about 15 farmers, growers, producers, makers and bakers and taking integral, yet uncelebrated crops from Cloughjordan Ecovillage, we're bringing you the most wholesome and consciously created food offering at Electric Picnic 2016. Join us in Global Green for McKennas Guides 2014 "Best Food at Electric Picnic Award" breakfasts, coffee, ice cream, NutShed treats and hearty all day offerings for herbivores and carnivores alike. Festival goers will be asked to donate their used tents and sleeping mats after the festival, with tent donations points available at every campsite as well the Global Green area inside the main arena. Róisín Garvey of Green-Schools is coordinating the plan and will drive all the donated tents over to Calais in October where they will be badly needed before the winter sets in. " ‘Having seen the amount of good as new tents people leave behind after festivals and having seen in Calais how useful they would be, as there is so much waste at Festivals and so much want in Calais’ said Róisín who is going to personally deliver the tents after the Festival. " “Green-Schools in Ireland teach children all the time about reusing and not wasting stuff so why not expect the same from adults? Especially when there are over 7000 refugees including over 700 unaccompanied minors with literally only the shirts on their back in Calais”. " The Electric Picnic organisers have been very supportive of the initiative and Global Green in particular are happy to allow tents to be dropped off there. Green-Schools Officers and many volunteers are going to come on site and help Roisin on the Monday gather all the donated tents and sleeping mats.
