Kishoge Community College Principal’s Report to Parents 19th January 2017 SCHOOL CLOSURE DES have notified us that New Junior Cycle training will take place on Monday February 6th. The school will be closed to students on this day. Having received the date for the cluster meeting the school can now set a date for a third school closure. SCOIL SINEAD COMMUNITY COLLEGE Update on new Lucan school. ASSESSMENT Second Year Christmas reports have been issued. First & Third in tomorrow’s post. MOCK EXAMS Mocks run Thursday 9th Feb to Friday 17th Feb. Timetable will issue next week. Exams have been timetabled to coincide with the beginning and end of the school day with a gap for study in between. When students have finished exams for the day they will have the option of going home or staying in school to study. Corrections are €90 to include cost of study skills seminar. STUDY SKILLS A Study Skills seminar has been organised for Third Year students on Tuesday 28th Feb. JUNIOR CERT LEVELS Levels must be returned to SEC by 16th March. Parents choose levels having received advice from schools. This advice will go out to parents on Monday 13th March. TRANSITION YEAR PROGRAMME 2017 DRAFT 1 Outline planning completed Depts. will now engage in more detailed planning. Costings have been requested from all depts. by Jan 31st. TESTING OF INCOMING FIRST YEARS 2017 Testing of incoming First Years takes place on Sat. February 4th 9.15-12.45. SCHOOL CONCERT First school concert was held on 14th Dec. Well done to all of the students involved. Thanks to Ruth, Niamh, Kate and Ciara for their work with the talent since the beginning of the year. And thanks to all of the staff who helped out on the night. OUTDOOR EDUCATION Parents and students can choose from the following trips: Weekend in Delphi, Co Mayo Weekend in Bundoran, Co Donegal Day trip to Avon Rí Centre, Co Wicklow Day hike, Co Wicklow HOMEWORK POLICY COMMITTEE One or two parents invited to join the committee. Aim to have draft policy for March and final version for April meeting of BoM. SENIOR UNIFORM Do parents wish to consider any change to the uniform for senior students: TY, 5th and 6th. ENROLMENT 2018 The number of applications for places in First Year 2018 exceeded the number of places available. In accordance with the Admissions Policy a lottery took place on Weds 14th Dec to establish a numbered waiting list. Thanks to Zahid for his assistance. PE DEPT Cross country / Running Club: A number of students, across 1st to 3rd Year have been selected to be part of the school cross country team. The students will represent the school at the West Leinster Cross Country competition at the end of January. An external coach from Lucan Harriers is going to help coach the students and prepare them for the event. We have arranged two training sessions for the students, Monday after school and before school on Wednesday during running club. Thanks to Rosie, John and Lorna Basketball Club: 1st and 2nd Year boys and girls basketball got off to a great start in December, with a large number of students attending both. The students are now preparing to start their league campaign which kicks off at the end of January. (Boys: Thanks to Áine and Rosie, Girls: Thanks to Maeve and Rachel) Football Club: The first year football team, finished up before the Christmas break with a massive victory, scoring a massive 11 goals against the opposition. Their league continues this January. The second year team are continuing to train hard. Their league will also continue this January. The girls’ team have two matches left in their league. They continue to train hard every Monday evening in preparation for their final two games. Thanks to Aaron, Enda, Garvan, Michael M, Rosie Volleyball Club: Volleyball club continues every Monday after school. Both teams participated in a competition in December. They played really well together, making excellent progress. Thanks to Ciara B and Rachel H Badminton Club: Badminton club continues to be one of the most popular clubs currently running in Kishoge, with over 30 students attending each week. Thanks to Ciara R and Maeve Dance: The Dance club put on an excellent display in the winter show, in December. It was an excellent performance, great talent among the girls. Thanks to Kate Fitness Club: Fitness club remain very popular. We have almost 20 students attending before school, every Monday. Thanks to Rosie Rowing Ireland: The seven first year classes finished up their rowing programme in December. They had 4 weeks of training on the indoor rowing machines, during their PE classes. It was a very successful programme and the students made excellent programme. In January the programme starts for the 3rd year and students in the Resource Centre. This will be the second time the 3rd Year students will have accessed the programme. CLUBS The school has 24 clubs running before and after school and during lunchtime. Thanks to all staff involved.
