Remind students to be cautious when moving during activities, and to be aware
of the personal space of others. Ensure bench is stable for the step-ups.
●
Students will actively and safely explore movement by acting out a story.
●
●
In groups of 4–6, make a straight line. A volunteer leads the group around the
activity area slowly, with all group members following the leader’s moves.
On the signal, first student goes to the end of the line, and second student
moves to the front and leads the group around activity area in a slightly
faster manner.
This pattern continues until the last student leads the group around the
activity area at a fast yet controlled speed.
S'ACTIVER
Acting out the Story
●
●
Post names of the animals/characters from the story on the wall, along with
the corresponding movements for those characters.
Divide the class into 2 or 4 groups (1-2 groups per story).
Each group performs their story's animal actions.
Once the group is finished doing the actions for one story, switch to the other
story.

Nanabush and the Dancing Ducks (powwow or other music can be played
during this activity)
●
●
Duck: crouch down and waddle forward
Dancing: twirl around and dance to the music
RETOUR AU CALME
Stop and Go
●
●
Read two stories, or have students think of two stories that have been
discussed in class (see Appendix F for examples).
From the stories shared, have students say out loud the types of
animals/characters from the stories and the various movements they do.
Owl: bob head up and down and turn around three times
Rabbit: hop on two feet, stretching arms high above your head
●
Play slower-paced music.
Students travel around activity area (e.g., tiptoeing, crawling) and freeze in
their own space when the music stops.
Lead (or ask a student to lead) a series of stretches. Consult the examples in
Appendix B.

For earlier grades, you may need to make sure that each group has a student
who can read, or direct the activity yourself.
For this activity, students could also create a story or invite a local Elder or
storyteller to share a story with the class.
See Appendix D for music ideas.
