LESSON TITLE: Proclamation Line of 1763
SUBJECT/GRADE LEVEL: 7th Grade Social Studies
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
1. Students will be able to Identify the reasons that Great Britain used in
order to implement and justify the Proclamation Line of 1763
2. Students will be able to Explain how and why the colonist reacted
negatively towards Great Britain as a result of the closing of the western
frontier
3. Students will be able to Describe how the creation and implementation of
the Proclamation Line would be the first of many acts by the King that
would increase the tensions between the colonists and Great Britain
MATERIALS: Do-now question, Proclamation Line Reading/Worksheet,
PowerPoint, 3-2-1 Organizer
WARM-UP:
1. Do Now:
- Describe at least one after-school activity that you engage at home
that you would not want to lose
2. Small Group Activity - Working in small groups, have students complete the “Royal
Proclamation of 1763” reading and activity worksheet.
3. Big-Group Discussion
4. Assessment: 3-2-1Organizer
BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF THE LESSON/ACTIVITY:
I will begin class with an anticipatory set to encourage students to call upon their
own experiences and how their feeling of loss may relate to how the colonist felt at
the time. Following the anticipatory set, I will engage the students with a
PowerPoint presentation designed to compliment the lesson. Next, working in
small groups, students will complete a reading on the Proclamation Line of 1763
and answer the attached the questions. Next, students and I will discuss their
answers in a whole-group setting. Utilizing the PowerPoint as a learning tool and
working in a whole-group setting, the students and I will work cooperatively to
answer the following questions: “Considering the actions of Great Britain, what are
possible arguments by the colonists in response to the Proclamation Line? Finally,
in an effort to measure student assessment, the students will complete a 3-2-1
Organizer.

 General education classroom
