Principal’s message:
SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
Spring has arrived and we have a busy month ahead. This week we are
looking forward to the Great Egg Drop Eggstravaganza on April 13 at
1:30pm. Come watch the students’ inventions and see which of the
eggs survive the drop from the roof of the school! A big thank you to
Save on Foods for donating the eggs. With the Spring weather,
students have a renewed energy. Students are playing happily outside
and enjoying the opportunity to play new games. Similarly, indoors, it
is fun to watch how engaged students are in their learning as spring
brings with it new units of study. On any given day, it’s truly great to
be at AHE.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
Grade 3 to 7 students have been eagerly taking up the challenge and have been
reading up a storm. Teams were selected in March based on knowledge and
number of books read. The district competition is this Wednesday April 12 @
9am at BVE. Good luck to our AHE readers!
BOTTLE BRING-IN APRIL 20th
The Grade 7's January bottle bring-in will be held on Thursday April 20th. You
are welcome to drop off your recyclable containers to our students at the front of
the school from 7:30 to 8:20 that morning. We are hoping to do one more before
the trip, so keep saving your bottles and recyclables.
DISTRICT GRADE ACTIVITIES
Coming up in May will be gymnastics for our Kindergartens and swimming for the grade 2’s and 5’s.
Permission forms and schedules have gone out for K’s and will be coming home soon for swimming.
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
The date is fast approaching and our students will be jumping and celebrating over
30 years of Jump Rope for Heart! We encourage parents to come out on April 28th to
support our students as they celebrate and jump to save lives. The Heart and Stroke
Foundation appreciate our participation to continue the life-saving work that they are
doing. Envelopes were sent home on Monday, March 13th. Please return the
envelope on or before Tuesday April 18th to your child’s teacher, whether you
collected pledges or not.
VOLLEYBALL
Our interschool volleyball is under way. Participating Grade 6&7 students are practicing at AHE on
Mondays and alternating games/practices at RSS on Thursdays after school. A great big thanks to
Mrs. Hoshizaki and her Volleyball class and to Ms. Tedesco and Miss Maitland for sponsoring here at
AHE. Be sure to come out and support our games which are all being held at RSS/BE.
The year end tourney will be held @ RSS on April 27 th at 3:15. Come and cheer on AHE!
SATISFACTION SURVEYS
We will again be completing our Provincial Satisfaction Surveys electronically for
students in Gr. 3-7 and on paper for Gr. 4/7 parents during the month of April. All
parents are encouraged to complete the survey. Thanks in advance for taking time
to do this. The results of the survey are used to help us develop goals for next year.
April 22 is officially Earth Day. On Friday April 21 each class will be a
doing a school neighborhood clean-up and we are also encouraging
all students to walk or bike to school on that day. When everyone
does their part for the Earth, we all win!
