Wednesday February 22, 2017 bit.ly/11JMGNN The Way We Were bit.ly/2fN5b7I On This Day Tina Turner The Biltmore On February 22, 1989, Tina Turner won a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocalist. She was 49 years old. Have you ever found yourself wondering what it would be like to live in a mansion? I have. I imagined it would be very glamorous. Ms. Turner originally recorded with her husband, Ike Turner, but left him in 1976. For the next five years she stayed behind the scenes. Finally, in 1981 Tina made a comeback with a new style of Rock and Roll music. Her first solo album was titled ‘Private Dancer’. It sold five million copies. Tina was introduced in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. I personally still love her voice and when she sings, well there is just now way to stay still. I’ve got to dance! © 2017 Everyday Sparkles All rights reserved. This thought was especially true after my family took a trip to North Carolina to visit the Biltmore Estate. Now that’s what I call a mansion! My girls called it a castle! It is still a privately owned home today, although most of its 250 rooms are opened for tourists. It was built by the famous George Washington Vanderbilt II. One could very easily get lost inside. I was amazed at the large indoor pool and bowling alley. www.everydaysparkles.com February 22, 2017 1 Readers’ Letters bit.ly/1bsGr5P bit.ly/2fTdGwF Do You Remember? Scrapbook Mary Pickford I very much enjoyed reading a recent article about the actress Mary Pickford! It was interesting to remember that movies were silent in the early days. I was also thinking about the fact that movies started off in black and white, not in full Technicolor. Although I like seeing some of the old black and white movies, it’s funny not to know if an actress is a redhead or a brunette. The costumes, too, look very different in color. We take a lot for granted, now that TV shows and movies are all in color. What a lovely, colorful world we have all come to enjoy around us! © 2017 Everyday Sparkles All rights reserved. Dear Christine and Jack, I like looking at scrapbooks. In fact, over the years I have created several of my own. They are a way of holding onto past memories. They are lovely to look through. When I was young I always used to save things like movie tickets, party invitations and theater programs. They brought back all kinds of memories. As a teenager, I kept flowers that a date had once given me. In the days when I used to make my own clothes, I used to save small scraps of fabric and stick them in the scrapbook. I tried to draw the style of the dress next to them but I wasn’t a very good artist. Best Wishes, from Francine www.everydaysparkles.com February 22, 2017 2 General Knowledge Card Games Quiz 1.
