Programs will meet the individual child’s and family’s needs as well as performance standards that will prepare children to be successful in school.” About Our Programs • • • Washoe County Preschool classrooms are located at various sites throughout Washoe County including elementary schools, high schools, and community based sites. Our curricula include pre-reading and writing skills, math, movement, language, literacy, science, art, music, self-help skills and socialization based on Nevada Pre-Kindergarten Content Standards and the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s guidelines for developmentally appropriate practices. Each Pre-K program is held four days a week (Monday—Thursday) for 2 to 2 ½ hours in either a morning or afternoon session. • The Even Start Pre-K is a full day program five days a week from 9:005:00. • Infant/Toddler care follows the high school schedule. Priorities for Pre-K Enrollment • Child lives in the neighborhood of the site they are attending. • Child is four years old by September 30th of the current year. Each family will be able to choose the programs that are of interest to them. Assessments Upon enrollment, children will participate in Expressive and Receptive Language Assessments, and the Ages & Stages Questionnaire, which assesses the child’s developmental level. Parents will participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss each child’s progress. Some programs may also include home visits. Parent Goals To further benefit the families participating in the WCSD Preschool programs, parents (or another designated adult) are required to attend all parent-teacher conferences and to establish personal parenting goals that will be achieved by the conclusion of the program year.
