Kangaroo Island Walk,
South Australia
Kangaroo Island; an idyllic spot for an Easter
break for nature lovers.
Located just 15 kilometres off the coast, but
seemingly a million miles away, Kangaroo
Island is a sanctuary for wildlife and natural
rugged beauty. Enjoy breathtaking sights and
picturesque scenery. See Australian fur seals,
spot platypus and visit the Remarkable Rocks.
This is a fully accommodated, small group
walking tour with professional walking
guides. Your walk takes in the Remarkable
Rocks, Admirals Arch, Cape Borda, Iron Hill,
Hanson Bay, Rocky River, Snake Lagoon and
Ravine des Casoars. See Australian sea lions
up close and personal and tour Kelly Hills
Caves.
Experience this beautiful part of Australia
and explore one of the country’s most scenic
destinations. All while enjoying the company
of other solo travellers who revel in the great
outdoors.
The Pace
Basically any fit and healthy person can participate. If you can walk
upwards of 15 kilometres or more in a day, carrying a lightweight
day pack you will find the walking activity totally achievable. The
minimum requirements to participate are being able to carry a
5 kilogram backpack (that holds your lunch, water, camera, rain
jacket plus a few other personal effects).
While we typically walk on well forged walking tracks, the quality
and the degree of difficulty on these tracks varies a lot. You may
find the tracks rocky and “lumpy” underfoot, soft and sandy or
muddy and slippery. The prevailing weather can make a track that
is typically dry and firm wet and muddy. You will also, a times, find
there is the need to be able to negotiate obstacles such as fallen
trees, or sections of scree, or steep steps. None of these would be
enough to preclude a healthy and able-bodied individual but they

DAY 1 – SATURDAY 15 APRIL 2017
Adelaide - Kangaroo Island
Beginning in Adelaide, we have an
early morning meet up at 6:10am for
a 6:20am departure from the hotel,
to transfer to Cape Jervis, where we
board the Sealink Ferry. On arrival
to the ferry terminal at Cape Jervis,
there will be option of getting some
breakfast (at your own expense).
** Be ready in your walking gear **
We board the Sealink Ferry at 8:30am
for a 9am departure for a very scenic
45 minute crossing, known as the
Backstairs Passage, to Penneshaw
and Kangaroo Island.
Should I/Shouldn’t I have breakfast
this morning?
We’d suggest something to eat before
joining the trip. The journey down to
Cape Jervis Ferry Terminal is about an
hour and a half. We can let guests get
off the coach once we are in position
to board the ferry. The terminal has
a cafe so getting a coffee and muffin
is not a problem. Then it’s a 45
minute crossing followed by our first
mornings walk. Otherwise, lunch is
not offered until around 12.30pm.
Once we’ve arrived around 11.00am
we’ll set out for the first of our day’s
walking along the Iron Hill Cove
Hike so come dressed in your hiking
clothes and hiking boots.
This walk affords us spectacular views
over the Island. From there it’s onto
our lunch spot and enjoy the scenery.
Then we continue on to Seal Bay
where we head down to the beach
with a local ranger and take part in a
tour of the sea lion colony.
In the afternoon, we head to our
historic accommodation.
Distance: 4km
Walking Time: 1 ½ hours
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
DAY 2 – SUNDAY 16 APRIL 2017
Kangaroo Island
A short drive from our front door
this morning is Hanson Bay. From
here we head off for our day’s walk

the Island’s best known walk, the 10
kilometre Hanson Bay Hike.
Once at Kelly Hill Caves we take a
tour of the caves and appreciate their
amazing limestone formations. We’ll
also stop here and have a ‘cuppa’
and a biscuit, then, it’s back to our
accommodation to explore the nearby
formations of Admirals Arch, home to
thriving colony of Australian and New
Zealand Fur Seal.
in their natural surrounds, as we do a
delightful circuit walk around Rocky
River.
We finish up at the Flinders Chase
Visitor Centre where you can grab a

of Kangaroo Island.
We get the day off to a bright start
with a short walk out to Weirs Cove,
one of the most spectacular lookouts.
This great little walk is an absolute
delight and we then head back to
Penneshaw for the ferry.
Lunch will be on Kangaroo Island
before we board our ferry for the
trip from Penneshaw at 1:30pm, to
have us back to the mainland around
2:15pm and with the aim to be
returning to Adelaide airport around
4pm.
Return to Adelaide Airport.

Park, Cape du Couedic is renowned
for its wildlife and spectacular coastal
scenery. View seals frolicking in the
ocean from a spectacular lookout.
Visit Remarkable Rocks and Kelly Hill
Caves, just a short drive away. Take
a stroll to Admirals Arch, long after
the crowds have gone, or relax on
your front veranda to watch for the
first stars to shine and the welcoming
beam of the lighthouse.
The lodges offer the charm of
yesteryear, with polished pine
floors, tasteful furnishings and
cosy self-contained kitchen. Each
cottage sleeps up to six guests in
three bedrooms. Cape du Couedic
is one of three unique lighthouse
accommodation precincts managed
by national parks
Due to the historical layout of the
cottages there is only one bathroom
per cottage and there are three rooms
per cottage.
The cottages are extremely spacious
and in superb condition. Meal times
are split between those happy to eat
their main meal sitting around the fire
in the lounge room and those happy
to eat at a large dining table, separate
in the kitchen.
For accommodation; we do not
provide alcohol but you are welcome
to bring your own beer, wine and/or
spirits for the occasion.
WHAT TO PACK
You need to bring clothing for the
duration of the trip, as well as a pair of
comfortable walking shoes, toiletries
and any personal medication.
WALKING SHOES
The most important item for you to
have with you is a reliable pair of
walking boots/shoes. Runners and
flat-soled shoes will not suffice except
as something you can wear after the
day’s activity.
Weather can be variable so proper
rain gear is very important as
appropriate clothing layers.
GEAR LIST
** Please bring you gear in a soft
bag rather than hard suitcase to help
guides pack the trailer **
