present the 2017 Summer Camp Guide.

Scholarship Information
Through the department’s fundraising efforts and the
generous donations of others and the support of the
Friends of SKPR, the department is pleased to offer
a scholarship program for South Kingstown youth.
Scholarships are available for individuals who qualify
for the South Kingstown School Department’s free
and reduced lunch program. Application forms
are available at the Neighborhood Guild. Please
note; applications must be received no later than 10
business days before the start of the camp/program.
Aquatic Adventures
Skim Board Camp
Join in the fun as you learn to skim board for the first time or
improve on skills you already know. The South Kingstown Town
Beach in Matunuck offers great shoreline skimming and great
conditions for long and fast rides. The camp will focus on the
fundamental skills involved in skim-boarding and basic ocean
knowledge. Once the basics are mastered, you will have an
opportunity to learn some new tricks or master skills with top
East Coast skim board professional Drew Bruno and his staff.
Open to ages 10 – adult. (8 and 9 years old with permission from
the instructor)

Riding the Waves” Surf Camp
Located at the world famous Matunuck Point surf break! Camp
meets at the South Kingstown Town Beach and uses Matunuck
Point Surf Break. Wetsuits, surfboards, and instructors provided.
Learn everything you need to know to rip up waves from certified
ESA and NSSIA instructors. Activities include concentrated
instruction on paddling techniques, proper board stance, how
to catch and ride waves and how to paddle through white water.
There will also be beach instruction on rip tides and currents. A
FUN surfing competition will take place the last day of camp and
prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. Competition divisions
are based on ability levels and ages. Open to youth ages 10 through
adult (8 and 9 years old with permission from the instructor).
Participants MUST be strong swimmers, able to maneuver over
rocky terrain and handle their own board both in the water and
on land. Fee includes all rental equipment, including a surfboard,
leash, wetsuit, and wetsuit boots. Campers are welcome to bring
their own equipment if they prefer. Participants should bring
a snack, lunch, 2-3 water bottles, 2 towels and sunscreen. This
program is held rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, a
program cancellation decision will be made at 8:30am. Make up
day for any cancellation is the Friday after the last day of camp.

A required parent/guardian orientation will be held at 10:00am
on the first day of each camp session.

DISCOVERY CAMP 2017
For children ages 6 – 12
Tuckertown Park

Come and DISCOVER what’s new this year!!! Camp starts Monday
June 26 and runs through September 1 with individual weeks for
your convenience.
This year everyone will be located at Tuckertown Park where
there’s tons of fun stuff to do! We have basketball & tennis courts,
walking trails, a full playground, baseball and soccer fields and a
covered pavilion for other activities. You’ll have time everyday to
pick activities to do with your friends.
Many of our staff will be coming back this summer and they’re
looking forward to seeing you! We’re already working on new
games, trips, craft projects and more.
A few important things parents need to know:
*Weeks 1 through 9: at Tuckertown Park (TTP)
-camp activity calendar will be available June 1st at the
Guild and on the town website.
-rain location is the Neighborhood Guild.
*Week 10 Aug 28 – Sept 1: at the Neighborhood Guild
-camp activity calendar for this week will be available Aug 1
*Age groups are 6-8 and 9-12: Groups will be located in 2 different
areas of the park however they will participate in some group
activities and field trips together. The drop off and pick up location
will be the same for everyone at TTP.
*Regular Day hours are 8:00a.m. – 3:00p.m.
The cost per week is $85R / $95 NR
*Extended Day hours are 8:00a.m. – 5:30p.m.
The cost per week is $110 resident / $120 NR
-children registered for extended day are transported to the
Neighborhood Guild by bus where you will pick them up.
*Field trips and certain special activities are NOT included in the
registration fee. You will need to refer to the camp calendar for
details.
*NEW this year is Early Morning Drop off: Starting at 7:30 a.m.
children can be dropped off but pre-registration will be required.
When registering for camp, this will be an option for you. The cost
is $3 per day / $15 per week. This is for any child dropped off prior
to 8:00 a.m.
*Late pickups: A $5 fee will be charged for every 10 minutes a
child is not picked up (please refer to camp guidelines for details.)
*Camp activity calendar will be available June 1st at the Guild and
on the town website
*There is no camp on July 4 or August 14 due to the holidays.
*NEW this year: Staff Meet & Greet at the NEW Rec Center on
Tuesday, June 13 and Thursday June 15 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
This will be an opportunity for you to pre-register for field trips,
drop off medical forms and pick up trip shirts for your child.
Bring the kids and they can play a game or two with some staff
while you complete the paperwork.
-Note: field trip space will be limited and therefore we do
encourage you to register in advance.
*NEW this year: Children not attending field trips will be able
to stay at camp with staff at TTP. If your child doesn’t really like
the beach or maybe they’re too young for Dave and Busters, no
worries, camp staff will keep them busy!
*The Camp Guidelines will have additional details on policies,
procedures and other general information. This will be a part
of the registration packet and will also be available on the town
website.

Preschoolers
Ahoy Pirates!!
There is really nothing your preschoolers can’t do!
Lots of camps, lots of fun! This is a great summer to
explore the possibilities.
Safety First
A fun and exciting safety education program for children entering
kindergarten this Fall. School bus safety, stranger danger,
home, fire and general safety topics are highlighted during the
four-day session. The children will meet real first responders,
explore some safety vehicles, and take a field trip to the SK Police
Department. Please pack a small nut-free snack and a drink
each day. This program is co-sponsored by the South Kingstown
Police Department and the Union Fire District. Instructors: Jenn

A Citizen Scientist is

backyard at a time. Come
and explore nature and
discover the world around us. Use compasses, nets, books and
more to discover our great big beautiful world. Hike the trails
around Tri-Pond Park and explore the pond’s edge (there will be
no swimming in the pond). Camp will be led by Citizen Scientist
Mariah Sweet. She is featured in the book of the same name,
“Citizen Scientist”, by Dr. Loree Griffin Burns. Open to ages 5 to 10.
Please wear sneakers and bring a snack, lunch and water bottle.

Little Ducklings Camp at Casey Farm
This camp is for young children who are ready to come to Casey
Farm on their own, but are not ready for a full week or day
experience. Join the Casey Farm staff as campers meet the
animals, sing farm songs, listen to farm stories and make farm
crafts! Open to ages 4 and 5. Dress for the weather and bring a
rain coat in the event of rain. Bring a snack and a drink. Be sure
to wear sneakers and sunscreen. Casey Farm is located at 2325
Boston Neck Road, Saunderstown. Pre-registration is required
and must be done through the South Kingstown Parks and
Recreation Department. Space is limited and early registration is
strongly encouraged.

Explore your creative side!!! New projects again this summer.
New projects every week. String art, paper art, wood painting,
fabric art, mosaic work, canvas painting, ceramic and clay!!
Each day we will work on a main project and a couple of smaller
projects to go along with the theme of the day. This camp is filled
with something for every artist and is sure to be a hit for those of
you looking to explore your creative side. Everyone is encouraged
to take each project to their own level. Creativity is always

Art & Soul Fairy and Gnome Camp
Do you believe in fairies? How about Gnomes? I know we do! Do
you ever think about the magical places that they live? In this
Fairy Camp, we will be sharing a magical week of designing and
building all things fairy and gnome. We will be exploring the
woods and making houses for them in the forest. How about
some little furniture, gardens and anything your imagination can
create? At the end of the week, we will be making our own fairy/
gnome houses, stepping stones and paintings, to take home to put
in our own gardens too! This is such a exciting way to spend your
week. Let the creative magic begin!! We will be outside for part

Each day we will be doing Art, Art and more Art. You are
wondering what this will be? Do you love to paint? Do you love

charcoal, painting, and much more. Each day there will be a new
technique introduced, along with a master artist, such as Monet,
Picasso or Seurat just to name a few. One masterpiece will be

In this camp we will be creating a “Tree” made from painted
branches that will be embellished with photos, beads ribbons
and pieces made by you. Each child will be creating bobbles
from polymer clay that represent friends and family to hang on
their branches. We will be drawing and painting pictures to add.
Special items from home can also be added. The branches will be
secured in a flower pot that will be painted too! Such a fun and
special way to represent your family memories. This is a project

Clay Camp Collaborative
We are back for another exciting clay-filled summer of pottery at
the PDOB with many new techniques and ideas to share! Spend
a week immersed in our pottery studio and learn all about this
amazing craft. In this truly unique camp, young artists will work
on the potter’s wheel, hand-build and sculpt many clay creations,
learn about glazing and firing pottery, and find their artistic voice!
Exploring our inner artist can get quite messy, so wear sloppy
clothes and pack a snack to fuel your body for this hands-on,
creative adventure. This camp fills up quickly so please enroll
early. All materials provided. Open to ages 7 to 15. Instructors:
Rhea del Rosario, assisted by experienced clay artists from the
Pottery Studio at PDOB. Rhea loves introducing artists of all ages
to the incredible world of pottery-making.

“Be a Star”
Rock Band Camp
Performing Arts & Dance Camps
Kid’s Cabaret
Sing! Dance! Act! Perform your favorite songs
and characters from Disney, Broadway and the
movies! Kids Cabaret is a super fun camp where
kids have the opportunity to learn some theater
basics (stage direction, blocking, voice projection,
working in an ensemble etc.) through practicing
for a show and playing community building
stage games. We provide a safe and nurturing environment for a
budding performer to have the opportunity to be on stage. Please
bring a snack and lots of water. A performance for family and
friends will be held on the last day of camp. Wear comfortable
clothes. Instructor: Matt Neibels. Mr. Matt is an accomplished
musician and a public school music teacher in Providence who
formerly taught at the Compass School and Kingston Hill Academy
in South County. He lives in South Kingstown with his wife and
two daughters.

Form a band! Learn to play songs that you love! Write your
own songs! Play in a show! Record the live stage performance!
This camp is for students interested in singing, playing electric
guitar (or acoustic guitar with pick-up), bass, keyboard, drum set,
percussion, brass and woodwinds, strings and other instruments.
Beginner to advanced players are welcome. We’ll find the right
part for each student so he/she is challenged and successful. A PA
system, microphones, keyboard, drum-set and hand percussion
will be provided. Students are welcome to bring their own if they
prefer. All other instruments must be provided by campers. Open
to students ages 10 – 17. Please bring a snack and lots of water.
There will be a concert on Friday, July 28th at 11:15am Instructor
Matt Neibels. Mr. Matt is an accomplished musician and a public
school music teacher in Providence who formerly taught at the

Adventures at Casey Farm The following camps all take place
at Casey Farm, 2325 Boston Neck Road, Saunderstown. Preregistration is required and must be done through the South
Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department. Space is limited
and early registration is strongly encouraged.
Dance Camp
Do you hear that sound? Does music get you out of your seat and
moving your feet? Then let’s dance! Get those dance shoes on
your feet as we move to the beat! Each day will be packed with
cool dance moves and lots of creativity. Learn the dances all week
and we will put on a show on Friday for family and friends. We
will create a camp t-shirt to wear on our final day along with other
dance related crafts. All campers must bring energy packed
snacks, a lunch and plenty of water. Please dress in comfortable
clothes so you can properly stretch and move. Hair should be in
a bun or pony tail. All campers must provide their own tap and
ballet shoes (check the area consignment stores if you don’t have

Music Making Camps
Drum Jump
Play drums! Play Rhythm Games! Put on a show! Drum circles,
rhythm games, African drums, snare drum, percussion, xylophone,
drum set and anything else you can strike, shake or scrape! Have
fun learning drumming skills by playing rhythm games, creating
fun musical pieces and performing with a group. We will perform
a short concert on the last day of camp. Beginners are welcome.
Instruments are provided, students are welcome to bring their

Farm Friends
A great camp for our youngest campers. Each day we will visit
the farm animals, hand-feed the chickens and hold the chicks
and rabbits. Enjoy daily farm story time with a related craft. Visit
Narragansett Bay for a story at Casey Point and try and catch crabs.
Relax on the hayride both ways on swim day at the waterfront. Pick
a fresh farm veggie each day for a snack. Other activities include:
collecting eggs, playing farm games, watering the garden, feeding
the animals. Relive the olden times of Casey Farm and try your
skill at Nine Pins and play fun games like flinch, spud and Drip
Drip Splash. The week’s activities culminate in a fun-filled day of
farm carnival games, making ice cream, butter, candles and soap;
and participating in the ever-popular camp-wide egg drop and the
farm party where campers are invited to take their parents on a
tour of the farm. Open to ages 5 and 6. Bring a snack and lunch

Growing Together
My Big Backyard Experience work and play from a farmer’s point of view. Help
care for our animals daily, collect and wash eggs. Water our
gardens and most importantly have some good old-fashion fun!
Participate in farm related crafts, games and activities in a distinct
farm setting. Throughout the week, campers will hike to Narrow
River for a supervised swim time at the waterfront and return

Campers hunt for
frogs and tadpoles
at our pond, hike
through our fields
and forests to learn
about wild animals,
play nature games and hike down to Narragansett Bay where
they investigate the shoreline and get their hands dirty hunting
for crabs. Groups take a hay ride down to Narrow River where
campers enjoy a supervised swim. Every day they help feed and
care for a different farm animal. In addition campers learn how
to write using quill pens, undertake a bug hunt, make a weaving
and learn how to make a fire and if successful enjoy s’mores.
Other activities include egg collection and washing, amazing
mazes, scrambler and tavern puzzles, scat and bone identification,
tracking, carnival games, capture the flag, pipeline, helium stick,
chocolate river and a treasure hunt. During down time campers
will undertake a weaving craft to make to bring home at the end

Higher Learning Basketball Academy
This camp is led by a staff of experienced coaches who will focus
on individual instruction, competitive league play, contests and
tournaments. The mission of the camp is to improve playing
ability by teaching the fundamentals in a structured but fun
environment. We want to help players make it to the next level
whether it be travel team, AAU, JV, Varsity or College. Camp will
focus on offense, defense and overall conditioning, improving
quickness and agility and preparing to be a great player. Plenty
of drills and lots of conditioning work. But wait there’s more…..

Join us for summer field hockey fun! Camp will be divided by
experience and will include skill development, tactical drills and
small games. It is a great opportunity to learn a new sport or
increase your field hockey skills and get ready for the fall season.

Total Play Multi-Sports Camp
Experience over 16 different sports from around the world
including, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, disc golf,
cricket, floor hockey and many more at the US Sports Institute’s
Total Play Multi Sports camp. All activities will take place in an
atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork and
most of all, fun. Campers will receive technical instruction, have
the chance to experience the sport in a realistic game situation,
and will participate in the exciting USSI World Cup Competition.

Using the revolutionary SNAG (Start New At Golf) system, US
Sports Institute’s First Play Golf clinic is the ideal way to introduce
youngsters to one of the world’s most popular sports. Children

will also incorporate inclusive team challenges and individual play

Learn to Skate with Evan
King and His Court From the basics of skating to mastering tricks, this camp is
guaranteed fun! We will set personal weeklong goals and work
towards meeting them. You will learn the fundamentals and work
on a variety of skills and maneuvers that will challenge you as a
skater. There will be plenty of time to practice under the expert
guidance of instructor Evan Mansolillo who has been skating
since he was 10 years old and has participated in and won many
local, regional and national competitions, including our very own
SK Skate Competition! Please bring a lunch, snack, water and
your own equipment including board (in good working order),
helmet and elbow and knee pads (strongly recommended). Open
to ages 6 to 15.
Come to camp and learn the fundamentals of playing badminton,
pickleball and paddle ball. After learning the basics, there will
plenty of time for playing the games. Lots of fun and exercise. All
equipment will be provided. Please wear sneakers and bring a

at Old Mountain Field Skateboard Park.
Do you know how to ‘ollie’? Come learn to
‘tweak’ the skateboarding way! Not sure
what an ollie is or how to tweak - then this
camp is for you. Designed to introduce
the basic skills and fundamentals of
skateboarding, including skate park
etiquette, skateboarding games, and
maneuvers. The day is broken into both
group and one-on-one instructional
sessions and always ends in a free skate
where parents are welcome to come
and view their child’s progress. All skill levels are welcome for
this fun and active camp. Please bring a lunch, snack, water and

British Soccer Training Challenger Sports
British Soccer Camps provide young players with the rare
opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team
of international experts right here in South Kingstown. All ages
and abilities will receive a great cultural and educational camp
experience. Each day campers will work on individual foot
skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games,
coached scrimmages and participate in a daily tournament. The
Challenger coaching staff provides lessons in self-discipline, good
sportsmanship, respect for others and for the game. Campers will
receive a free British soccer ball and camp shirt (if registered prior
to July 21st) and a personal skills evaluation. Open to ages 6 to 14.

Elite Tennis Camp
Track Camp Under the supervision of South Kingstown High School Boys’
Varsity Tennis Coach, Andy Carr (PTR), Gwynne Holcombe and
Alex Chavez these one-week camps focus on fundamentals, match
play, fitness, and fun. Each participant will receive 12 hours of
instruction
Come and learn all about track and field! Lots of techniques will
be reviewed including block starts, long jump, hurdles and shot
put. Whether you are new to the sport or have experience you are
welcome and encouraged to come. The camp week will conclude
with a mini meet. Open to boys and girls ages 13 to 18. Please
bring a water bottle and running shoes. Instructor: Stephen
Gruenberg, former Director of Cross Country and Track and Field
at the University of Rio Grande for 5 years. Former Director of
Darke County Track Club and South County Speed Track Club.
Ran for NCAA Division 2 Cedarville University.
Each camp will include group and skill based activities,
opportunities to work on strategy and plenty of match play.
Campers should bring sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle, snacks,
towels, extra shirt, etc.
The 6 to 10 age Quickstart will focus on the basic fundamentals
to start your child on the right path to a life- long sport. The
racquets, balls, and courts are all age appropriate to ensure a fun
and successful experience.

3. Enter the email address that you provided us when registering
for the program. (NOTE: If you didn’t provide us with an email
address at the time of registration you will need to call our office
and provide an email address to complete the account set up.)
4. After you’ve entered your email address, click Next.
5. An email will be sent to the email address you provided. After
you’ve received that email you’ll be able to go to the Home Page
and click on Login. Enter your email address and temporary
password. After you’ve done that your online account has been
created, and you’re ready to start using the Online Registration
system.

Attention: Customers Paying by Credit Card
The Recreation Department has contracted with a credit card
payment processing company in order to establish the new on line
registration feature. There is a cost associated with this payment
processing service, which will be passed on to the customer in
the form of a 2.5% convenience fee with a minimum payment of
$1.95. Please note that this fee will be assessed for all credit card
payments made online. A fee will not be charged for credit card
payments made in person at the Neighborhood Guild.
