Simplifying Radicals
Create a factor tree and take
out the largest perfect square
1= 1
2= 4
3= 9
4 = 16
5 = 25
6 = 36
7 = 49
8 = 64
9 = 81
10 = 100
A radical expression is simplified when:
• There is no perfect square factors under the
radical symbol (besides 1)
• The number under the radical symbol does not
contain a fraction
• The denominator does not contain a radical
expression
