“Keep your face always toward the sunshine

Holiday 2016 Newsletter
If you are not feeling well, your health can make you feel as though you are living in the shadows.
St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic, for many, is the light to lift up spirits and to find quality and compassionate
healthcare. Patients realize their dreams and move forward towards a healthier journey.
Many St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic patients never expected to be walking through its doors. They display
gratitude for the help they are given, and show such extraordinary kindness to one another. It is because
of the compassionate care and generosity in the community that patients receive not only the medical
help they need, but the respect and dignity they deserve.
In 2017, St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic is celebrating it’s 40th birthday! In 2016, we are proud to have built our
“Continuity of Care” health program model. This approach to patient care is comprehensive and patientdriven. Help the clinic continue it’s legacy, and the mission in serving as a critical member of the Safety
Net in Waukesha County. As the holidays near, St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic kindly asks each of you to
consider a gift of health to someone in need. There are many ways to give so that you can create a
significant impact in the life of a patient.
“Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you.”
– Walt Whitman

May the season bring you warmth, family, and many blessings!

Michelle is a 58 year old patient who sought care at our clinic after losing her
job and insurance. She previously had insurance and was able to meet all her
medical needs. Though her initial appointment was for an urgent need that
required immediate treatment with medication and a referral, she also had
chronic health needs requiring current assessment, evaluation and treatment.
At no cost to the patient, SJMC clinic was able to provide a women’s health
exam, a GI specialist exam, prescription assistance program, flu vaccine, and
medication through the Waukesha County Community Development Block
Grant funds. Through the support of our network partners, Moreland Ear,
Nose and Throat Group, Waukesha Memorial Hospital lab, Walgreens, and GI
Associates, Michelle has been able to access comprehensive health care. She
is feeling much better and is very grateful for her health care.
Waukesha Noon Kiwanis
In the fall of 2016, the Waukesha Noon
Kiwanis provided a generous $1,500 to
help patients with transportation to
and from their medical appointments,
and to help afford costs with health
education classes and support groups.
We applaud the wonderful work of the
Waukesha Noon Kiwanis in the
community and for the care and
assistance that affects so many
individuals and families.
Medieval Mayhem: A Knight of Celebration
It was an evening to Remember! Together, we celebrated the successes and
achievements of St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic. Because of caring,
compassionate, and generous individuals in the Waukesha County community,
we had much to celebrate. We raised nearly $60,000 to help our clinic reach its
goals in providing medical care to many in our community who remain
uninsured and underserved. For nearly 40 years, we have endeavored to
increase primary care access, provide health education, save and sustain lives,
and help a neighbor in need.

The Impact
Thank You for helping us create some mayhem, have some fun, and enjoy a
wonderful evening together.
In 2016, the patient population
increased and by October
surpassed 2015’s total. We
expect that patient count will
continue to rise and the
complexity of medical issues will
grow. Patients are unable to
afford health insurance and are
chronically ill with multiple,
complex issues.

CVS Health Foundation Partnership
“Continuity of Care”
St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic and ProHealth Care’s Waukesha Family Practice
Center began a partnership in 2016 to increase primary and specialty care
access for the uninsured and underserved individuals and families who reside,
work, or attend higher education in Waukesha County. This unique
collaboration was underwritten by grant-supported funding through the
National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) and the CVS Health
Foundation with a $35,000 grant award in early 2016.

(WAFCC). On November 3rd, the
WAFCC celebrated it’s 2nd birthday
at the Madison Museum of
Contemporary Art!
St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic was
celebrated as a member and
spotlight clinic for all the good work
we are doing in the Waukesha
County community. We are proud of
these efforts!
Jessica Osenbrügge, Executive Director of St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic, explained,
“We are grateful for this grant award and for the wonderful partnership with
ProHealth Care. In the lead up to our 40th birthday in 2017, we are a valuable
and critical safety net provider for those struggling to afford their care. The
nation’s healthcare laws continue to evolve and we anticipate the need will
continue to grow in Waukesha County.”
In May of 2016, St. Joseph’s Medical Clinic opened their additional clinic
location at the Waukesha Family Practice Center and have expanded their
health and education programs under a “Continuity of Care” program. This
program offers patient-focused, multi-disciplinary health services through the
use of medical residents through Waukesha Family Medicine Residency, an
affiliate of Waukesha Family Practice Center. Medical residents serve as
primary care physicians and oversee the health management of patients. As a
result of this collaboration, the clinic was able to evolve from a paper chart
system in to an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system through the generous
support from ProHealth Care.
Congratulations to Aurora Health
Care for receiving the “Partner of the
Year” award. Your collaboration with
free and charitable clinics in
increasing access to primary care is
outstanding.
